This doesn't seem much different than the old SL, more like modifications than a real redesign.

2005 SL 500
Here is a link to the picture of the rear. More than the taillights look changed. I think we have a slightly different shape to the rear as well.

MBWorld Fanatic!
The current car will be with us for at least another 5 years, with some mild makeover in a year or so. Why kill off the goose that's laying golden eggs by the bucket load?

It will be around for a while.

We have all seen these pics before the 06 came out. These minor changes might come in 07 with the new engine. But front bumper won't change for SL with AMG package. Anyways, I prefer the current tail light than the new one.

Look at W220 S-Class VS W140 S-Class..... Both lived for about 8 years...

Mercedes all the way!
the W220 couldn't make it anymore because it had compromises not befittting the Merc name - it was a great car, sure, but some of the interior just doesn't feel quality enough for a top-of-the-line car, and there were the little electrical niggles that shouldn't be there in the first place. that's why they needed a new one, quick. the magazines might still be praising it but the fact is, people are starting to move away big time. Merc used to sell 14 S-classes (W140) for every 7-series in Malaysia. now it's one-to-one. no wonder they're worried!
the SL will definitely be around for a long, long time to come though. Merc hit the jackpot with this one. hope they don't add the F1 nose =) i think it's really elegant as it is. the SLK needs the nose for some extra aggression as its targetted at a (dare i say) younger audience :p

sl and M-class E320 4Matic SLK350
Well, I have to admit those two curbside poles that have been attached to meet the forthcoming European pedestrian safety standards do set the new model apart from the current one.
