Congratulations on your purchase of the SL600. Wish you well with it and I sincerely hope that you will not have any problems with it. Mine had a list of difficulties incl leaking transmission oil, gears sticking, and plenty of electrical problems . I am currently suing them as they have not resolved the problems. The dealer has even admitted to me that they are all giving varying degrees of problems which can be understandable were it not for the fact that they are not prepared to resolve the problems. The statistics on problems with their cars is staggering and their poor customer relations is famous. Hope you will not have a problem with you new car and every good wish to you in that respect. Paddy

The vehicle's build date was 08/04 and it was delivered to MB Manhattan 09/04. It sat there for 14 months (on/off showroom floor) and it has no options. True, other dealers with similar vehicles wanted between 105--115

I could care less what everyone here thinks, I posted the negotiated price to help future buyers out. I was skeptical about the price at first, but when you think about it it is 14 months old already. Cars do depreciate in the showroom.
I found the car on autotrader and they listed it for $114,900. When a new car hits the internet the dealer is desperate to move it! I placed a request and the salesman told me they would let it go for $109,000. I said I would think about it and he stated if I was a buyer today I could have it for $100,000 even.
I thought if I showed up in person they would see how serious I was and maybe get a little more off. They stood at 100K firm for about an hour. I finally was ready to leave and we agreed on $98.5 + new V12 mats + new battery. I still had to pay tax/tags. MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR: I HAD NO TRADE!!! Car is brand new & best of all the warranty expires in 12/09...how can you beat that????
You all should be happy for me, don't be pissed that you paid 140K+ for yours & I got the same car for <100K :p I don't have $$$ to burn to jump from an 05 to an 06 because of a little fender bender. I am a working-class American, I am not rich at all. Besides, everyone seems to want the AMG 55 version which I could never even get close to 110K. The SL600 is a bargain, used or new...it does not get any better than this.
I don't feel I have to justify myself but if you are lucky I might post a scan (sanitized) of the retail order. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
Later b1tches

I never once thought that you did not get the car for 98.5K.
What did seem a bit of a surprise to me was the change in your attitude toward others. The change from before you got the car to the very second you got the car seemed to be quite remarkable.
Remarkably bad I am afraid.

Congrats on the car, its good to see someone so excited about their vehicle! Enjoy and drive safely

I have noticed that there are alot of jealous people in the world. Most of the haters on this thead are jealous that they could not get such a smoking deal and paid MSRP for theirs. I posted my price for one reason: so that others know the market and may be able to get similar deals. This board has been extremely helpful to me and I wanted to give back.
Don't sweat me because I am the Master Negotiator!

To anyone else
To anyone else,
Why would the dealer install Alcantara.
Did they install is on something else other than what the sl600 has as standard?

Look at your posts. Before you bought the car you actually seemed like a nice guy. Afterwards, even before the price issue, you rapidy became a jerk!
Actually, maybe the real problem here is that I missed that fact that you were a jerk before you bought the car.

If you look at your factory spec sheet is will also show the Alcantara code. I think they do it to tell the color. Y83 is charcoal, Y84 is stone and Y85 is ash.
For me, I don't doubt that he got the car for his $98.5K. If you find a dealer desperate enough they will do almost anything. It is not his master negotiating skills except maybe they wanted him out of the dealership.
Remember, he chose to get a stripped down SL600. I don't know of anyone that would. It was a good chance for them to dump the car at any cost that most would never buy.
What I do find surprising it what a complete jerk he is. All of the SL600 owners on here are a little more "low keyed" than him. I was being nice.

And of course...let's not forget about our great SL55 and SL500 owners and hey, I better include former SL600 owners too.

All the car has is a V12 Biturbo engine, a retractable hardtop, power everything, leather everywhere, 6-disc CD changer, Bose surround sound system, DVD navigation, Bi-Xenon headlamps, Alcantara headliner, etc.
On top of all that it is an ugly color, metallic silver, very hard to resell for a Benz and it is only a 2005 model!!!
Who the heck would buy that stripped down POS?

There is another possibility.
Mercedes Benz has a program for cars that have been damaged upon shipping from Germany.
They are repaired and then subsidized to the dealer and sold at a greatly reduced price.
I wonder if this car was part of that program?
