SL500 for $100
If you can't stand the wait, you can add a Mercedes SL500 to your car collection for just $100.
It's only a 1/18 scale model of course, but is made by Mini-Champs and is much more detailed than the Maisto versions. And, as you can seem it has a working roof - including the rotating rear window.
Excellent quality, I picked mine up at a Mercedes dealer in London for about $100.

That models looks so real!! I collect 1:18 models myself, and I bought the Sl500 made by Maisto, but I was very dissappointed with the quality. You mentioned that you were able to get the new model from a dealership in London. I checked to see if they were available in the U.S. also, but it seems as if they are not. I searched the internet for it, and had no luck finding it anywhere. Does anyone know where I'll be able to get this in the States, perhaps have it delivered to me from oversees? Any websites, or numbers that I can call?

What I should have also said in the original post is that the trunk link opens both ways using the same scissor hinge as the real car - an incredible level of detail. The model itself is made in China, I think only they have the patience to work to details like seat belt latches that can slide up and down the belt.
MiniChamps are a German company (www.minichamps.de) but I could not see this model on their web-site - there's alot to cover though. The dealer I bought it from was selling it alongside models for other Benz's and accessories, so it's possible this is a "made for Mercedes only" model, so you might like to think of emailing them to see if they can help.
What I'd really like is a 1/8 scale model of the car (Pocher, what are you doing these days?) which could even incorporate a roof which opened under its own power. That would keep me busy for a few months while waiting for the 1/1 version.
