2004 Wheel Problem
The silvering is beginning to come off some of the wheels on my 2004 SL500. Has anyone else had this problem and if so was your dealer helpful with making it correct? The wheels are factory stock. It is not that bad now but it gets worse every month. Almost seems as if the brake dust is eating the silvering away.

I think someone has used a very abrasive substance on your wheels.
Try to get it covered under warranty. If you have gotten your car washed / detailed outside of the dealer then I would take it up with the detailer as well.

I have only ever used Mercedes Benz wheel cleaner (Meguiars) purchased through the dealer followed by Mequiars wax. I am the only person who cleans the car and the wheels are done weekly to remove brake dust.

I never used any wheel cleaners on my wheels. I noticed the defect on my wheels after 3 months of owning my 2004 SL500. The zone manager finally came out and determined the damage was not cause by any wheel cleaner. It took about a year to get 4 new wheels replaced by Mercedes.

Went to my dealer and they said the problem with my wheels was that the factory powder coating job. They brought in the factory rep who wanted to send the them to a wheel shop to fix the problem. My service advisor at the dealership talked the rep into replacing the wheels and thats what they did. I can only say that my dealership has been INCREDIBLE in dealing with any problems I have had with the car.
