Add retrofit panoroof panoramic roof?

Has anyone added the panoroof to a car that didn't originally have one? Was thinking about this.... Seems possible- isn't it just the top roof that needs to be replaced? Anyone with a mercedes parts CD know the part number? Seems like a easy bolt on job that any body shop would be able to do.

Any thoughts? (beside the fact that it will be damn expensive)

I knew a guy who asked that same question about a year ago...and the answer that he got was no, that it isn't the same as just cutting in an aftermarket sunroof in another car....

the $1800 option will become > $3000 add-on option - the top has to be replaced and not cut , the MB service center can order the entire roof panel factory painted and shipped from Germany for a total of > $ 3000 ( installed or not - i'm not sure)

Yeah I agree, if you're trying to get a pano roof on your SL they'll take you to the bank. I personally dont think its a must have option but in the case of the SL, having it changes the complete look of the roof into something unique in itself and worth every penny, but even with that I wouldn't pay more than 2k for it.

Arm...leg...****...vile of sperm.

I live in So Calif and it turns the SL into a heated fish bowl. I though my Diablo was bad for allowing the sun's rays in...sheesh.

So I take it the shade doesn't do anything to keep the heat out? just the sun?

I live in San Diego and I've owned SLs with and without the roof. I would not have an SL without one. It opens up the interior. I love it. The sunshade works fine for me. If you plan to keep the car, I say go for it!; otherwise, I wouldn't spend the money.

Have the pano top here in Atlanta - another bastion on heat. No problems at all. I rarely have the sunshade closed during the summer - and use the sunshade more often to stop glare than heat.

Would order the pano top again without a second thought. Love the roof line and the open feeling inside - especially when it's cold and crappy out like today.

The only caveat I have is that I think it only looks good on a black car; it completely disappears on balck otherwise the top is more than apparent.

I disagree. I have a silver SL 500 with pano roof. I think it looks better than the silver without pano roof. It definitely opens up the interior. I regretted ordering the pano option at first because I thought the black top would look awkward on the silver. It did in the pictures I saw at the time. But at the time of delivery, I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it is with the pano roof. I would not get an SL without one.

I agree on the cheapness of that screen. But, it works and unless you touch it, it doesn't actually look that cheap I think in the SL55 you get the Alcantara on the roof too instead of cheap plastic right?

I like the pano roof. What I don't like is the interior finish of the roof especially that "cheap" screen and "plastic" locking mechanism.

In the end, that is what stopped me from ordering it.

Yes. I am now left with my 2006 Infiniti M45, my wife's 2005 BMW M3 and the 2003 Navigator which still doesn't have 20,000 miles.

So...basically, I am car-less. Can't remember the last time that was the case.

What to do...?
.

The Aston Martin was an incredible car from an incredible automobile company.

You just never get to use it in these here parts of town.

That is my story and that is what I am sticking with.

I think you owe us a few more details. You were quite vocal about Astons on this forum, and now all of a sudden you don't have much to say.

Perhaps it got away from you and you bent your baby?

Perhaps it wasn't as reliable as you thought?

Out of respect to those of us who listened to you go on and on about how great this car was, more details are warranted.

I do understand your sentiment. Everyone here was patient with my posts and that I am very appreciative for.

There are however extenuating circumstances that do not allow me to say more.

I agree with what you are saying but apologize that I am unable to give more details.

You have always been open and frank in your posts and I will have to admit mistakenly that initially I did not understand who and what you were---for that I appologize. To the rest of you Lovin does not owe anybody anything more than what he has said. This is a great forum and not a confessional so leave well enough alone.

I wasn't trying to overstep my bounds. Just curious.

I hope it wasn't something bad.

If it was, I hope everything works out o.k.

Thank you. I am fine and everything, for me, turned out very positive.
