Question Top Ultra Performance Tires for SL

for the OEM 18 inch wheels on the SL500...what are the best "ultra performance" tires to buy, money not being an issue...cosumer reports says the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3 are the best...I just want to get REAL peoples' opinions

My vote is for the Michelin PS2s.

By far the best tire i've owned!!
A noticeable difference in linear/lateral grip, great sidewall strength, better ride comfort, and noticably quieter.

I'm comparing them to the following tires on the same vehicle

Bridgestone Pole Position S03
Pirelli Pzero Rosso
Toyo T1S
And even the Mich. pilot sport.

You'll be very impressed with the PS2s Michelin did an excellent job here.

I went through the whole shopping for tires ordeal...whew. I ended up purchasing Dunlop UHP Sport 9000 tires. The sales rep at the local Goodyear shop strongly advised these...even over the GSD3s (which I initially wanted to buy). More reliable and better rated (check out the Goodyear site).

I'm running staggered 20 inch Toyo T1R's after taking off the 18 inch staggered Michelins. The side wall on the Toyos are softer, but for serious crazy driving I think the Toyos are more sticky. The Michelins were easier to peel out with....but I had different rims so its hard to compare.

What sizes did you run? Did the S03s like to tram-line? Do the PS2s? I have 255mm S03s on one of my other cars and they tram-line quite a bit and it is rather annoying.

The S03s did tram-line more than my Pirellis and definitely more than the PS2s
I had a staggered arrangement on my M5 245/40F -- 275/35R on 18" wheels.
I'm sure you notice this a bit more with the larger tread width.

My biggest complain about the S03s (outside of inferior traction when compared to the PS2) was the high road noise, and once past the half tread life point, they gave a very harsh ride.
Before the release of the PS2 they were the benchmark, but the Michelin tire just does a much better job.

I thought

I thought the PS2's were not made in the standard size for the SL. Maybe I was told wrong.
