Advice needed 2005 SL600 Transmission Problem

Hi,
I have a 2005 SL600 with Renntech ECU upgrade. I was getting onto a highway on-ramp with no one in front of me so I decided to have some fun and floored the accelerator pedal. The car hesitated for a split second then the RPM's rapidly increased and I heard a loud grind like noise and my car stopped accelerating. When I pushed the pedal down the car would REV but not move as if I were in neutral but I was in drive. I drifted to the side of the road and put the car in park. I then put it back in drive and the car would REV but not move. I put the car in reverse and the same thing happened. I decided to shut the car off and restart it. When it restarted, the car would then run when put in drive and reverse. Has this happened to anyone out there? I hate to bring the car in now that is seems to be working but I'm a little worried that there is something wrong. It drives fine now. I'm thinking that it was a safety mechanism to protect the transmission but why did it happen. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Oh boy...could be big problems.

First, contact your RennTech dealer. My suggestion is to make sure your dealer is not aware of your Renntech mods because technically, if it can be proven that the increased power from the ECU mod caused the failure of the transmission, the repair bill may end up being your responsibility.

However, RennTech is a reputable company and if the failure was caused by misprogramming or another issued, there may be warranty remedies through them.

In any case, my guess is that the tranny is damaged.

I hope you are wrong!!!

Craig,
I called Renntech today and they said they have heard about this before although it is very rare. I felt like I was getting very neutral answers for my questions. I don't know what to do. My transmission seems fine since the incident. No check engine lights are on and the car is shifting normal. I hope it is OK in the future. I don't want to take it to Mercedes because I know they will not cover any problems. I sometimes wish I never got the upgrade. It is bitter sweet. I love the power but now what do I do if something really goes wrong. I didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling from Renntech that they would cover it. I may be wrong however.

An option

An option for you would be to have Renntech flash the computers back to original programming and then take the car into service. Then after service have Renntech reflash the computers. My understanding is all you will have to pay is the cost of shipping.

Supposedly the dealer would never know about the upgrade.

StephenK,
I live in Plantation, FL about 50 miles from Renntech. I actually had them do the ECU upgrade. I thought of the same thing but I am pretty sure they will charge me for doing it plus it takes a lot of time to do all this. I may end up doing it and paying what ever it costs just for a piece of mind. My car seems to be driving fine so I'm not sure if I should do anything unless it happens again. If I had the time it would be a different story because I want my car to be perfect. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Charge

I would call them, Bob from Renntech told me the only charge was shipping. If you are 50 miles away, you should be able to get this all accomplished in one day.

OK. Good idea. Thanks again for the advice.

I was driving my car today and I just have to say how much I love it. It is so fast and smooth. I let my friend drive it who owns a 2003 CL55 and he was amazed at the power. Your car looks great. How do you like it? Why did you get rid of the 2005?

I think he was just having lots of reliability issues with it.

RENNtech rocks.
I wish I had a 600 to RENNtech.
