So the answer to Steve's question would be a no-brainer. The tuned Renntech would be superior in performance compared to the stock Cayman S. Surprised?

take a nice sunny day near the beach in a cayman (without a top down feature) driving along the coast...

need i say more?
and the straight road turns more and more twisty, which it leads to a nice isolated country road with miles of openess nd curves. Opps

At a drag strip, sure it's a no brainer. At an auto cross? At a track? I don't think it would be that simple anymore.

The SL600 will always win in the lady friend department. That's a viable comparo.

this is a pointless conversation.. why is anyone spending this much time comparing a porsche cayman to a sl600 in the first place?

there is a reason i have both.. as pointed out they are COMPLETELY different
cars.. there is nothing in common..
let's end it here shall we?

Moral..

Hmmm I think there is a moral here in this thread. Go for an ASTON MARTIN instead of either!

I picked up the 997TT yesterday at 3:00. I think I will need a roll of duct tape to take wifey for a ride in it. It's not a Caymen, and I think it will hand just about any car its a$$ with a average driver behind the wheel. The SL600, SL55, SL65 will prob out run it at high end if their limiters are removed, but they will have to catch it first.

I don't know about the 55 but the 65 won't have any problem with the new TT on the straights. Nice car but I wouldn't get your hopes up if you happen to come across the V12TT at a light!

The SL55/65 are beautiful cars (I have one) but they cannot put the power to the pavement at launch. The AWD turbo can. If you are at a light and come up against a turbo with tiptronic you will be toast until top end is reached.

Auto Bild comparison test: 997 Turbo, Vette Z06, F430F1 and Gallardo...

997 Turbo(manual)
0-100km/h: 3,7s
0-200km/h:12,1s
80-120km/h: 5,3s(6th)
Track time Oschersleben: 1:42.74min(Michelin normal tires)

Vette Z06
0-100km/h: 4.3s
0-200km/h:12.6s
80-120km/h:11.3s(6th)
Oschersleben: 1:42.30min(Goodyear's)

Ferrari F430F1
0-100km/h: 4.0s
0-200km/h:12.5s
80-120km/h: 7.5s(6th)
Oschersleben: 1:41.89min(Pirelli Corsa'a)

Lamborghini Gallardo
0-100km/h: 4.0s
0-200km/h:13.1s
80-120km/h:10.8s(6th)
Oschersleben: 1:41.52min(Pirelli Corsa's)

The auto Sl65 while every once in a while has a hard time with a launch will surely have many more good runs than an AWD 6 speed. The Gallardo is AWD as well and the SL will spank it. You will have a much harder time getting a decent launch than I would. I have friends that I let drive my car at the track for a run here or there that get in the 11's having never driven it before. The traction control helps wheelspin quite a bit. I like the Turbo and have magazines that say the SL600 does 0-60 in 3.5 so in the real world where one of our members has a highly modded 911 and an SL65 Renntech that he has videos of running 10's against his own 911 I will stick with the Benz for the pure speed factor.

I had the 997TT on a small flat track today and was chasing a Noble. I easily reeled him in because of the AWD. Very controlled 4 wheel drifts to. The track was very tight, never left second gear. Some mags are reporting 0-60 times of 3.2 with the 997TT with tip. The cars are very different and each has a different fun factor where the other does not.
