How in the heck do you open the glovebox?

I press the button but it won't open. I am pretty sure it is unlocked too as the 2 compartments behind the seats open fine. I am wondering if mine is not functioning properly or ??

I don't think it's functioning properly.
Push the button in and it should spring open.
Get it checked by the dealer.

BTW: Are you sure you posted in the right forum (R230)? Your profile says you have a W215?

I have the same issue with my glovebox. Dealer checked it, claimed to have changed the latch. It happened to me again earlier this week...back to the service department I guess.

The glove box on my 2005 SL500 also quit opening a few months after I got the car. The dealer either adjusted or replaced the cable going to the button which fixed it with no further problems.

mjr, it was covered under warranty. it's an '06 purchased in February.

anotherSL, I'll ask about the cable. sounds like that might be the solution.

Exact same experience on my 2006 SL500. Interesting that many of us have the same challenge but it has just been a great car in the 10 months I've owned it.

sory for the thread necromancy, but I just got my 04 SL600 today, and I have the same issue. I thought I was going nuts until I read this. I have to hold the button and give it a Fonzi hit, then it opens. I also have a strange clicking coming from what seems to be the latch locking the roof shut to the top of the windshield. anyone else experience this? I'll ask the dealer when I bring it in, but just curious.

Re: the glove box, I had the same problem with my SL55. I truly hate taking it to the dealer because they will repair one thing and screw up several other things. I sprayed the latch with silicon and adjusted the stops on the fixed portion of the box. When you open the glove box door you will see what appears to be two rubber washers on the upper part of the box area. Back out the screws a little at a time until the door opens freely and your problem will be soled.
The clicking that you are hearing is one of the creaky groany gremlins in the roof. The dealer will be able to take care of it but it will return in time.

I had a sound that I thought was coming from the same place. In fact it was the door that needed adjusting.

thatnks for the tips on the glovebox, I'll try that. I figured that even if the dealer could fix it, it would return. I drive with the top down 90 percent of the time anyways, so it doesn't bug me too much.

Glove box opening

Had the same problem with my SL55. I too don't trust the MB techs. I adjusted the cable that actuates the latch and now it works fine. Messing with the rubber door stops is not the answer.
