Changing Rear Taillights

Does anyone know how simple or complicated it is to change the rear taillights on the SL. I hear several people talking about changing to the 07 style.

My friend changed his R230's taillights and high mount stop lump to 07 style. It seems simple even though I don't know the detail.

I thought the 07 AMG style taillight doesn't fit SL from 03-06? or I have the wrong information?

The tail lamps are totally interchangable. Any model lamp will work on any R230 model.

The process of changing them takes about 1.5 hours and like anything is not very hard if you know what you are doing but can be a challange if you don't.

If you do it properly, it takes some knowledge to get it done. If you are like some and don't mind bending the inside panels just a little, it is a much easier task.

I have done them three times. Once the easy way and twice the right way.

The problem is if you are going to do it the right way you need to take off almost every panel in the trunk. You also will need to take off the center hard top boot cover in order to get the side panels off properly.

The center part has some tricky pieces to take off and put back if you don't want to crack them. All in all, not hard if you know what you are doing but it does take some handling of most of the trunk panels.

The center brake panel requires you take off the panel underneath the trunk and that too requires some time if you don't want to break the little plastic parts that hold the panel to the underside. There are about 9 of them and they do break if not pulled off in the correct direction.

none
The center brake light is easy to change, just make sure you have the top down when you do it. Care is needed when removing the carpeted panel, you can easily break the plastic pins.
Two 10mm bolts hold the light in.... took me thirty minutes to change them.
As far as the tail lamps, it will take about an hour or so to change them.
