transmission issue on sl550??

this evening driving back home when accelerating the transmission seem to have issues shifting into gear. in the middle of my acceleration, it seemed like the tranny shifted to another gear but did not engage. the revs shot to 5k rpms and the car didn't accelerate. it seemed as if the car was in neutral. on the next stop light, accelerating again, it seems like it wanted to do it again be this time is kinda stuttered and was able recover and engage into gear. i did not have any issues on the remaining 5 min drive back home. there was no check engine light or anything.

this is a brand new car w/ only 170 miles. has this happened to anyone here before? software issue or ???

I'd get MB to run diagnostics. Wouldn't want that to happen after pulling out to overtake.

I concur with Scotsman, but be careful about how you explain the problem to the Service Advisor. I believe hard acceleration is to be avoided during the first 1000 miles -- IIRC.

actually this happened during very soft acceleration. just came back from service and i explained the situation. i think we can all guess what happened..... we'll take it for a spin to see if we can reproduce it (and of course it doesn't happen). shop foreman hooked up the computer to it and no faults on the tranny. at this point nothing can be done except to monitor it and if it happens again, let them know and they'll initiate a call to mb engineering.

What about the adaptive transmission "learning" in the first 1000 miles? I wonder if that could explain any of it?

i wonder about that too... but is it that stupid to not engage in a gear and leave me revving when in D? hopefully it doesn't happen again. i didn't feel comfortable about that experience at all.

Thats exactly what happened to me today, except my engine light came on and it never got any better.

Did the problem ever come back or has it gone away completely?

this is kinda off subject but I bought my mom a bmw 325cic last may and i took it out one night for a cruise and the tranny went when i turned a corner and the tranny light came on then I shut the car off and then back on it went away. It happened again so I sent it to bmw and they put a new unit in it but its still happening and the car has only 2000 miles to date. It's a shame you have to go through this crap when you spend alot of money on a new car.
