now i am assuming that this will not work for an 00 s500. so does anyone know what the correct part numbers are for a spare key for my car?

FOUND---New key quest addendum!!!

I (finally ) found a parts guy at one of the other area dealer who was willing to make the simple call to check on getting the new style key.
I have one now, cost about $75(not keyless go), and IT WORKS FINE>

hey guys
the keys are all the same for all models
the keyless go key has to be programmed by the dealer as the keyless go part of the key would not automaticaly recognize the car and you kan have only two keys that can be used at the same time on the car
meaning that if you program the new key, the old one would only work as a regular non keyless go key
here are all the part numbers

The key is part number: A 221 766 09 06 (about $210 MSRP)

The blade key is part number: A 203 766 50 06 (about $4 MSRP)

The part number is actually a keyless go key, but it will still work no problem on a non keyless go car.

It now is: A 230 766 10 06

also the part number for the non keyless go key is

Key Standard : 211-766-36-06
Blade Smart: 203-766-50-06

as you can see the blade ofcourse is the same part number

you can order these at oem parts direct dot com
my total for the non keyless go key was $61.41
including shipping
yes these keys would work for all years using the smart key
i have bought these for 2000 S430 and 2006 S430

good luck

The Keyless Go key will not work with the older year keyless go system. Two different systems. I know for a fact that the 03 KG which utilizes the card type will not work...Ive done alot of homework on it hoping I could find someone who could since I hate that damn card but guess Im stuck with it!!

For everyone who is wanting to buy the updated key, yes it works just fine. It can be programmed and works.

cool, have you received the key yet or did you just recently place the order? did you give them your VIN when ordering the key? i'm wondering if a non MB dealer would be able to pair the key with your car or if they send you a blank key that you take to MB to pair. also, did you have to show them proof of the car being registered by you? seems like it would be easy for a thief to order a key if they have your VIN. thanks

Here in the UK after trying to get my KG card clean in the washing machine I had to take the car reg; papers and my passport to the dealer, even though he knows me.

As stated by Television as well they will ask for proof of owner ship before they order anything. Its a safety issue and must check.

I believe they will order the key based on the vin which means you will probably get the same key you have. If you do recieve the actual key you wanted than its probably not activated and will need to get it activated at the dealer so they really dont care about ownership its just a unprogrammed key.

thanks johnny. i just received an email from them and they said that when they send the key, you have to take it to the dealer to get it activated. didn't someone say that if it's blank you can just put it in the ignition and use it and it'll be paired with the car?

There has been talk about people leaving there ignition on all night so it will pair itself but with no luck. Others have tried other methods but last I know with no luck as well. Most usually order them from the dealer and get them programed and good to go but sometimes will need the dealer to tweek it a bit.

I have been following this thread for awhile and still cannot tell if anyone has successfully gotten the new 2007 chrome key to work properly on their R230. I have been in touch with my local dealer who says he is willing to try the "upgrade" but if it does not work then I am stuck. My car is a non-keyless go. The dealer is trying to get me to by the $300 keyless go key. I want to buy the $80 non-KG key listed above. Anyone have success with either of these keys please list your price paid/part number/model year R230. Thanks

rval...the non-keyless go key worked on my keyless go 2006. performed all functions (ignition, lock, unlock, trunk release, I/R top, etc.).

they also order a keyless go key and they couldn't get that version to work on the keyless go function of the car. so now I have a shiny ornament for the x-mas tree next year but no keyless go functionality.

they say education is expensive

new chrome key fob

As I mentioned above, I got the key after a little "debate and insistence" from an area dealer. I have the NON-keyless go. The parts guy called MBUSA, and confirmed the compatibility, he took my VIN and I ordered. Took two days. I did not have to program anything; it came ready to go, batteries included
The invoice KOREANPERS posted has the same numbers (and close to the same price) as mine.
Hope this helps you.

you mentioned oem parts direct, they are 48.00 there for part 211 766 36 06
but they do not ask for a vin number or id.. does that mean you have to then go to mercedes to have it programmed... it will probably be cheaper to order it from mercedes for 65.00

they do ask for your VIN as you check out. they say you need to take it to get programmed but people have said it works straight out of the box

That sounds sketchy. I doubt a VIN number would allow them to make a useable key. That said, I do hope my one works out of the box

here is the message I received
Jamie.pickard@hammersley.com

It will need to matched with the vehicle. Otherwise it could work on any vehicle.

I don't know who she is, or if this is true

Wink

Just got mine. To my surprise, it worked out of the box

It looks a hell of a lot better then the old key, only thing it's missing is the benz emblem on the back.

I agree with you that the star should be on the opposite side of the buttons, like the original smart key. Oh well, in total it's a huge improvement!

Solid. Did you have to specify anything when you ordered to ensure you got the 2007 key or ?
