What does the 2007 key look like?
I was at the Benz dealer the other day and saw some keys that were chrome on the sides, looked really cool.
I was wondering if this might be the 2007 keys for some Benz models. Anyone have a pic of their 2007 key?

They just have to order the key w/ your car's VIN. It worked fine right out of the package for me, I can't see why it wouldn't work for an SL as well.

just ordered the chrome key for my 2006 SL. lots of resistance from the parts guy who has worked at MBSO for 10 years. He assured me that it absolutely would not work and that he had tried this before. he told me the system would not allow him to order it and it would give him an error message if he tried.
after a little coaxing, he finally agreed to try again and sure enough it worked. Cost was ~$90 and it should be here in a couple of days. he ordered it as a duplicate key so I'll be able to keep my existing FOBs. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Great, hope it works, then I will get one.

Looking at a post in another thread, someone posted part #s of the new key. They do not match my part numbers, but he does state that the ones listed are for a keyless-go vehicle. Here's the post:

No, your's are fine....I don't have KG either, but was told that the part numbers for the KG cars are different than the non-KG ones.

I love it, best money you will ever spend. It has already paid for itself. Spend the money now and save the money later, especially if you have a lead foot like I do

update on the chrome key front...key arrived yesterday and techs went to mate the key to the car. after about 20 minutes I was told key was mated properly but the keyless go feature on the 2007 key was not compatable with the 2006.
lo and behold a gentleman by the name of Satish (young tech and very good at programming) mentioned that he had programmed a 2007 key for a 2006 S class. sure enough, the programming would work, IF we had ordered the correct key! turns out there are two different keys:
keyless go ~$200
non-keyless go ~$80
parts department was nice enough to order the keyless go FOB for me at cost (~$140). should arrive on Monday and will take 30 minutes to program.
at least I have a nice backup key now...
on a side note, the new key really is much nicer. haven't weighed it or anything but it is noticeably heavier than the 2006 FOB. not trying to sound snobish but the 2006 key feels like a cheap piece of plastic now.
my wife thought I was nuts for paying this much for a key (and I kind of agree with her) but once she saw the key, she wants me to get her one for her ML.
...the saga continues

StephenK, I peeked at the work they were doing in the garage bay. Looked like they had a computer by the driver's side door and the tech was sitting in the driver's seat while doing whatever programming is required. not sure if they hook into the car's computer or if they program the key directly. being that I'm a tech head myself, I suppose I should ask on Monday.
Moze, the key actually works just fine. It has all the features (doors, trunk, engine, I/R for the top), it simply doesn't work for the keyless go feature. Like I was saying earlier, it will make a nice backup key but not fully functional. can't return a key once it's mated to your car. according to MBSO, it's a security risk.

Question for all the ones who have gotten the key or knows about them. I called a local dealer and they said it wont work on a 2003 SL500. Is this true...sounds like most of you have gotten it to work with no problems?? I also have the keyless go feature and utilizing the old card style which I want to get rid of so does any of you know if this key will work as a keyless go as well as a key??

new chrome key fob
As mentioned in the thred above, my parts guy absolutely said MSBO would reject the order because it was for a "diffent model year".....
Can you guys give me the name of your (agreeable) dealer(s) so I can order a key?
Thanks a lot!
