SL/R230: Is SL the best Mercedes available now?

...I think the new S is actually the best Mercedes model from the entire line up...it has amazing looks, comfort, space, gadgets and technology and is very luxurious...not taking away anything from the SL, it has by far (I think) the nicest interior of all the "sports cars" and is a great all around roadster

I hope not, no offense to the 2007 CL owners...but I honestly would buy a loaded S550 4-matic for 114k than spend it on a CL...i just cant stand the back of it, doesnt look as nice as the S or even the SL

The CL's interior is great...but I think the NEXT SL (if done right) will be the top of the line benz. The CL is a little bland exterior wise IMO.....but still awesome. The S is the flagship 4 door sedan so its always a good call...to some the SL is still the ultimate mercedes.

Depends how you rate it....if you look at MSRP of the lowest model in any of the Benzes(meaning SL550 versus CL550 versus S550, etc.etc), the SL is the most expensive.....the CL is probably there give or take $1k-2k....but the SL is more than the S.

I would say right now it is a tossup between the SL, S and new CL. They're all so good, but the SL has aged so well and the facelift really has brought it to perfection. I mean really what could be more complete than a SL550? Anything more is just really overkill/bragging rights.
In that commercial though they're still using the 06' SL, shame on them. Update the darn thing.

2005 SL55, 2000 CL500
SL or CL or S. The new toys.
SL55 or better yet SL65.
I have a friend that just got his new S550. It is really nice.
All the goodies in it. Looks great. He loves it.
But he still drools when he sees me pull up in my SL55.
Sat in the new CL at the dealer.
Love the new interior. But as others have mentioned.
The exterior needs to "grow" on me a bit more.
Same problem I had with the CLS. Its going to take some time to
get used to that new rear end.
But IMHO. The SL is winner for now. Lets see what they do to it in the
next incarnation in 2010 or so.

Oh I'm sure, any high-end AMG product is sure to cause drooling, but I think overall the SL550 has more power than anyone "needs", its just bragging rights after that. I'd take a SL65 Designo myself, but gee whiz...lol...that is a really an over the top car...!

Enough said. There is no best benz, but if you encompass technology and innovation, its the new W221 and W216.
