SL600 Brabus vs. SL65

Hey,
I was wondering if it is worth it to pay the same price for a Brabus SL600 or an SL65 AMG. Which one of the cars is faster? I would think the Brabus SL600

And how much is the Brabus SL 600 and how does it compare with other tuners? ie, Renntech, Carlsson, MKB?

brabus

The SL600 starts out at about $135,000, so with the Brabus T13 performance kit in it you get 630 horsepower. With that in the price will be about $185,000 so who would be faster. What is better Renntech,Brabus,Carlsson etc.?

You also get a car with no reinforced pistons, trans, limited slip and the worst thing is it would probably be hard as hell to sell it and when you do you will take a serious beating. A 600 with just a renntech chip would probably be just as fast. Hell with the price of 65's these days there is no reason to not get the real thing!

right on Juice it......why spend a lot on Brabus..... you could get a 65's used for under 130K.... then when you got the 65's...... upgrade to T13S........

Bigmac,

Base on your calculation,

Lets say Renntech Stage 3 for the 600/65 engine, you get additional 150 on the crank i believe.

Stock SL 600 is 493 hp
Renntech SL 600 is 643 hp
Stage 3 is close being $45,000 inc labor.

So total package is $180,000 which includes, Renntech IC pump upgrade, Renntech dual throttlebody and intake manifold, ECU, TCU and CF airbox.

This is still an estimated guess as Renntech hasnt structure the Stage III yet. However, a SL65 is currently doing the upgrades.

oh yeah, and with that sort of power, you are looking to spend another $10,000 to reinforce your tranny, reprogram your transmission and what not.

Torque....

The thing about the renntech upgrade or brabus upgrade is not so much about the horsepower but a lot about the torque. Thats what mercedes is all about (torque). If you get the fully upgrade brabus SL600 you will be at 900 lb. of torque. That will rape an SL65 AMG anyday.
P.S. You will also have more horsepower than the SL65!

I haven't seen any tests or read any real world data to support this. The renntech Sl600's claim more HP and Tq as well and they are pretty much dead even with the 65. I think Brabus's claims are a bit inflated but there are plenty of rennteched 600's around that actually confirm the difference from stock. Anyone here have a Brabus 600?

Juice_it you are right. There are a lot of Renntech 600 and 65s providing us real data; quartermile times, trap speed. Look at Roger's S65 Renntech stage 2 trapping @ 129 mph and 11.069 quartermile. When Stage 3 is officially released, the SL65, CL65 and S65 will be in the 10s.

The RennTech ECU upgrade is a simple, cost-effective way to make some serious power. 625 Horsepower and 745 TQ at a cost of $6,400. This surpasses the PowerChips and Brabus ECU upgrades. However, where Brabus shines is the in the V12 "Rocket" motor, which is a re-built 6.3 Litre BiTurbo putting out 730 Horsepower. Exclusivity, you bet, but at three times the cost of a RennTech-600. Unless you're driving in the autobahn daily and need to outrun 99.9% of traffic, save yourself some money and get the RennTech.
