AMG brake install on SL500?
Hey guys, I figure someone on here has probably looked into this.
I have a SL500, and recently acquired the brake calipers from a
SL55 (Silver brembo's that say AMG). I am going to take it to a
shop to see if I can have them installed on my car. Of course I
will be taking new pads and rotors for a 55 with me. Is there any
other parts I may need to have a successful install?
Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I have the sport package with AMG wheels. I also heard
I may have to buy new steering knuckles, so I will have to alot
for that in the install. I picked them up from a seller in England
who took them off a car. Apparently they are 8-piston fronts
and 4 piston rears.
Do you guys have any idea on where I can by rotors/pads? I
would like to avoid the dealer since they are saying $800 per
front rotor which is a bit outrageous!

Really didnt know that the steering knuckles had to be replaced as well. How much did you end up paying for the whole set?
As for the rotors/pads I may have a few connections on getting those for you. Ill make a few phone calls and e-mails to friends who maybe able to get those for wholesale pricing for you. Are you looking for OEM or will you settle for other brands?

I got all the calipers for $850. The knuckles are going to
run me about $400 a piece, which are needed. As for the
rotors/pads, I dont mind if its non-oem, as long as they
are still good quality. I was hoping to find something which
so not as dusty as the factory pads.

Is it possible to move the 4-piston calipers and rotors from the front to the back and then upgrade just the front brakes to 6 or 8 piston calipers?
How much were the SL55 rotors?
Will these fit under the 18" wheels that are part of the AMG package for the SL550 or do you need 19" rims?

Hi, I am still locating the rotors and steering knucles. Once the
install is done, I will take pics and post details of all costs involved
and how it went. Wish me luck, lol.
As for the wheels, I have the AMG sport rims, hopefully they clear
the beefed up calipers.

The front AMG E55 brake rotors will NOT work fitted to the rear ..or try to fit
as the rear brake rotor has the E brake on the inner hub

One can redrill them with a vertical mill or buy replacements
Also check the metal backing plates front and rear for caliper/rotor fitting
as when I did the wifes car they didnt clear
Might also want to replace the flex hoses with braided steel lines

Only have the work done by someone who has a SDS, you need to deactivate the SBC and you cannot bleed the SBC brake system with out it. It is a pain in the ***.
Good luck
