Service A a waste of time?

I have a 2007 SL550 50th, that I purchased on April 14,2006. Since I don't run it during the winter months, it has only 1700 miles on the odometer. About 35 days ago, the service reminder light first came on telling me that it was time for "SERVICE A". I am now over due. Is this service really needed, given the mileage of the car? Now that the weather is getting nicer, I'd rather not give the car up for a day, if I don't really need to. Thanks!

2007 SL550
I have the same situation with my '07 SL550 which I purchased last April. I had 3000 miles on it when the service light came on. I brought it in because I wanted the oil changed if nothing else. There was a recall on the transmission also - some new programming that they had to do - so you might want to bring it in because of that. I had not received a recall notice in the mail but I guess it just came out.

Hope you are enjoying your SL550 as much as I am. Love the 50th anniversary wheels (if you got them)!

Thanks for the advice. I guess that I probably will take it in, so they can look at it. Could't hurt! and, a picture of the wheels (I like them, too!)

Did the dealer tell you there was a recall on all 07's or if it was just a certain number of production runs?

Mine came on after the car went over 2000 miles. I took it to the dealer and the SA simply re-set the warning indicator.
I plan on getting Service A once the 1 year in service date comes up even if the mileage is well below what MB recommends.

Sounds like a good idea; and I will do the same.

Calling MB directly was the waste of time. The person I talked to could not tell me why the light came on, if I should get Service A done, or what work was even done. Told me to call my dealer.

(love that color choice!)

I looked on my service receipt for the transmission recall. It is Campaign 2007010008, Trans Control Update.

I believe it was just a software update. The car definitely does shift differently now.

tomd - Your service light probably came on because it has been a year since service don't you think? Your car is gorgeous - looks like you have quite the assortment of beautiful Benz's!

Thanks! The improvements of the SL550 over the SL500 sold me on it. But, I did fall in love with the color combination.

The light came on about Feb 7 of this year. A little shy of 10 months since the car went into service. Maybe 12 months since it was built???

Thanks for the input
My trans does have quite a bit of lag when utilizing the paddles, perhaps the update will fix it.

tomd - Yeah - I bet they didn't reset the service indicator when it came to the U.S. - thus a year.

Meegle and tomd - Both of your cars clearly overshadow mine with options. I only have the premium package and trim package. But I paid it off last week - does that count?! I was a loyal BMW enthusiast for many years until they Bangled their cars - then I strayed. I have been very happy with the Benz - miss the stiff suspension and tight steering of the M3 - but the Benz's are luxury cars.

I am INSANELY JEALOUS that meegle has the trunk closer. I wanted that so bad. Didn't know it was an option until it was too late to change the order. Do you have it too tomd? If so, I am really going to be mad. Do you like it? I tried to have it installed but no go - can't do it I guess. What wheels did you get with the sport package - the twin spoke AMG 18" or the multispoke 18" like mine has?

Have you have any problems with your cars? I only had one - the motor in the passenger headrest had to be replaced.

Congrats on paying off your SL. Makes the driving experience even more enjoyable, no? I always paid cash for my cars, and never leased. But then, I always sold them privately, as well.

The 50th edition only comes one way, with one set of options. Unfortuately, the trunk closer (or panaroma roof!!!) was not included.
The only problem I ever had with either my 2003SL, 2005 SL, or 2007SL was a nail in the tire of the 2003. They have been bullet proof for me.

Enjoy your (paid) ride!
