Stock tires are only rated for 186 MPH, of course, so that would be a safety risk unless the owner installs 200 MPH-capable tires.

But what else?

His main comments centered around how car handled around curves and corners at what he termed as relatively low speeds for testing purposes. He felt the car had problems holding the road and was just not what he termed as stable under those conditions.

I remember him showing me how the Vanquish S performed on the roads and the speeds that he felt the SL was not stable at but quite frankly I just don't remember those speeds.

I do remember spending most of the day at speeds one would really never drive at.

Although I must say some of the most fun was spend on the coarse with very curvy roads going around 60 MPH which was the max he considered to be safe give the conditions of that coarse. That was the most fun and a blast.

It was also tons of fun going through the testing area for the brakes under different water conditions with and without the stabilizing systems on. When we were going 120 MPH and he told me to slam the brakes on as hard as I could on slick water I looked at him like he was nuts. It really wasn't that bad.

All in all it was a day I will never forget.

Let me get this straight... you were traveling at speeds in excess of 200 mph and you had your eyes trained on the fuel gauge long enough to see the needle move downward?

No, i did nothing like that, its more to meant like an expressioon.

With a quick look, you can easyly judge what is going on.

My mistake, most likely due to my literal interpretation of the term "literally".

Thanks for the extra info.

The Vanquish has a slight weight advantage (about 100 lbs) and a slightly wider rear track (about an inch) which would give it a slight theoretical advantage over the SL in cornering.

Tires could be a much bigger factor. If the Vanquish was running P-Zero Corsas while the SL was running P-Zero Rossos, the Vanquish would be noticeably faster and more predictable through the corners.

Thanks again,

Thanks again,
The Vanquish S also has lots of carbon fiber and it's chassis is a carbon fiber tub which would also have something to do with it although I am really not versed in this stuff.

Well, at least that is what they told me when I bought it.

Depends solely on age.
Not the cars, YOURS!

If you are older than 37 and 1/2, then you should buy the Sl600.
If younger, the SL55AMG is the right car for you.

Very simple, see!

(for sl65, restricted to not well endowed drivers)

Tell me who you are, and i will tell you what car to drive.

In my opinion you can split it up as follows.
In a general matter of speaking, you could say that the SL55 is for the young executive type, who wants to show his succes in life, but dont want to brag with a Ferrari. The type that buy an SL600, is the more mature type, that want to show that he is in control of things, and have reached a certain level in life.

Having said that, i dont my self fit into the above since i drive a seriusly modified SL55, and are at the age of 51. You are not older than you feel, and since i always have had a love and passion for cars, i am not ready to take back and behave like an "average" man of my age. Life still offers to mutch fun, and i still expect to get my share.
