Does the sl have a recall on the abc like the cl does?
My buddy is getting screwed by luxury Motors again.. It seems that they are trying to charge him for a bad abc even though he has had an extended warranty. He noticed the cars front drop suddenly while it was parked.. then when he pulled out it sounded like the caliper came loose.. They had to replace the whole brake assembly.

After checking the NHTSA site, the only recall pertaining to SL models from 2003-2005 was the SBC braking issue. There aren't any 'ABC' recalls for the SL.
If your friend has an issue w/ the ABC component, and he has an extended warranty, it should be fixed since ABC is part of the shocks/suspension sub-system in a car. Unless it's clearly excluded from the warranty, it should be covered.
Not sure why your friend's entire braking system got replaced. If the car was in the shop for the SBC recall, the fix is the following:
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A BRACKET AND REPLACEMENT GROUND WIRE TO THE SBC PUMP UNIT ON ALL VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. ADDITIONALLY DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE SBC PUMP UNIT IN SL VEHICLES PRODUCED DURING A LIMITED PRODUCTION PERIOD. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 8, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MERCEDES-BENZ AT 1-800-367-6372
Also, MBUSA should have mailed your friend a letter stating the SBC Pump is under warranty for 10 years from the date of manufacture of the car.

Nearly each manufacturer including Lexus, Infiniti has cars with one or more recalls. I don't think any car out there exists with no recalls. The key point is if the manufacturer immediately addresses the issue and resolves the problem.
