R230 SL: The most expensive non-exotic car to insure??
Did anyone see that AOL "QuickStart" article and pic with a crashed SL and how it is the most expensive car (non-exotic) to insure in America. Then you click on the article to see another SL pic (I added the link for this) and it claims insurance for the SL is up to $20k a year. They also have the CL as number 2 or 3 but use a CLS pic. I pay $1200 a year for full coverage with a $500 deduct. and Im in my 20's....didnt know I was ballin so hard ![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)

I can't imagine that could be accurate. 1600+ per month for insurance? Mine is $105 with $500 deductible, 300/100/50, uninsured motorist, rental car reimbursement, etc.

I have 4 55's and my insurance cost in Cali is nowhere near $20,000 a year. One thing that is fairly certain is that of the MB models the CL class is the most expensive.

2005 SL55, 2000 CL500
I resemble that remark.
I go about normal speed in the CL. And yes. 50 Years old.
Try to just relax on my daily commute.
But in the SL tend to get a little heavy footed and have some fun.
Since I own my cars out right. I have minimal on the CL.
Liability only. Its 8 years old now.
And have like a $2500.00 deductable on the
SL55. Premiums like $ 1500.00 a year. With a good driving record.
That article is nuts. $ 20K a year for insurance.
Maybe if your 19 and live in Newark New Jersey and have 2 DUI`s.
That would mean the SL55 would be even more $$$. Yee Ha.
Oh Boy.
I have car number # 1 and car number #2 in the AMG version.
Now I really feel special about my insurance company.

I am in my mid-twenties, clean driving record. I use the
SL for "pleasure" driving listed at 4k miles a year. I pay
about $300/month for it with coverages 2 mil/1 mil/100k
and 1k deductable.

SL Insurance Cost Article
I found a Forbes article through Yahoo that I found hard to believe:
http://finance.yahoo.com/insurance/a...cars-to-insure
Here's the abridged version:
For modest coverage ($500 deductibles on collision and comprehensive coverage, $100,000 each for personal and property coverage and $25,000 each for medical and uninsured coverage) on this year's $135,400 Mercedes SL, owners will pay about $22,536 a year.
For pricey cars like this, 20% of the base price is typical. But for those with low monthly payments on high-end cars, that could mean spending more on insurance than on the car itself.
Maybe I found the best deal in the world, but I'm only paying about a thousand bucks per year for $500,000 CSL and full coverage on my SL. When I checked insurance for the SL55 it was only about $100 more per year. My GL and A6 are about $800 each per year.
What are other folks paying?

That article is way off. I have a not-very-good driving record and only pay $133 per month right now in my 20's for full coverage.
When I had my CL, I was paying $250 per month but alot has dropped off my driving record since then. However, the bodies on the CL are magnesium and aluminum, very expensive to repair. I side-swiped something in the summer of 2005 and there was $10k damage. I was told at the time that there were only 6 or 7 authorized Benz centers who could work on the CL in the whole country. They had to have their techs trained in Germany.
Of course, as a result, they wanted $100 per hour for labor as opposed to the $55 they charged for every other Benz model. My insurance company fought that very hard at first but FINALLY gave in and paid the increased rate. At that time, only a couple cars had the aluminum bodies....I think one of the Audi models....the RS6(?).
