Most miles and major problems at what mileage on SL

Just curious - Year-number of miles-major problems at what miles? Should provide some information on parts failure mileage and common problems. Don't care about a loose sunshade, or alarm that went off but did not have a problem, etc. Should be interesting reading for all owners.

2003 - 40K miles - front axle boot at 33K miles.

There is no general way that failures happen, some do and some do not.
Some leak, some do not, some roofs rattle, others do not, some struts start to leak at very low miles, others go a long way and never get a leak, and its the same for the whole car

Window regulators can go early and often. Two on the 01 E320 we owned and one on the SL550 when it was just a few months old. When the window was messed up, you couldn't put the top down either.

I'll give you an example, on the 1998 and newer Toyota Landcruiser and Lexus LX470 if you read the forums and look at similar threads like this one you will figure out that the starter will die around 80K-90K miles, not on all but on enough that you want to be aware of the symtoms. Also the exhaust manifold will crack at around that same mileage, know the symptoms and take action if it happens to your LC/LX. I'm just trying to see if there are any common problems at certain miles with the SL's. I'm sure there are all vehicles have their problems but it helps the owner if he knows what these are and what to look for. JMHO

Lets put it another way

If the roof rattles or leaks avoid it, very hard to fix.

If any of the struts are leaking oil then $2k to fix each one

The above are things that you can see and hear. If you see a car and it does not have the 2 above faults, The are no real common faults, they are all very random.

Out of 10 SL's.
I know one thats had all new boot seals $3k.
SBC pump done under re call
Mine 2 struts at 20k miles $4k
In the UK the highest mileage ones are at around 60k and I know of no engine faults.

With these cars you just cant say that X will go at X miles

That's a good thing I bought the 3 year CPO mercedes 100K mile extended warranty just because of these high costs to fix items I've read about breaking.

2005 SL 500
Has anyone had an SL 230 that has gotten 100K or 200K? That's what I'm gunning for. I'm at 34K and the car is almost 3 years old (2005 SL 500). Still have the same AMG package tires on it too. (I heard no one has gotten more than 15k on those tires. I'm going 40K gentlemen, easily). I drive the car very gently with occational high RPM runs for engine health. Other than a drip in the trunk from when I bought it new, all other functions have been butter smooth. No problems. I got the 4 year 100K extension to the warrantee and I'm hoping near the end everything that's going to go, goes.

Again, anyone heard of 100 or 200K? Am I dreaming?
