hey konigstiger or anyone else, have you tried having your brakes changed at the stealers ship under this bullentin? i was at the dealer today and told them i wanted my brakes changed under this new bulletin since i had already paid for an inspection about the noise problem previously. i was told by the dealer that this bulletin was only good for vehicles under 1 year old. is this correct? has anyone else experienced this? i have an 05' sl which is still under warranty.

Had my pads changed in addition to the spring/piston. No charge. Problem has not returned since 19-NOV-2007.

Dealer put new front pads rotors and sensors and rear pads on my 2003 CPO car 3 months after I bought it for free since the fronts only measured 15% when I put on my winter wheels/tires. I think they did it because during the CPO they should of caught the fronts being under CPO required 50% so they did everything for free. That cost them more then if they would of done the CPO right the first time. But I'm not complaining

PM your email address and I will forward a copy. The bulletin documents “in case of warranty” operation codes to obtain reimbursement to dealer from MBUSA for work performed with absolutely no mention of a 12 month/12,000 mile limitation.

P-B-42.10/51e Front brake squealing / grinding noise – replace pressure-retaining springs with modified version along with piston damper and pads.

konigstiger i sent you that my email. here's where i am i took my sl in for the rip off B service and asked the service adviser about the bulletin and gave him the specific #s. he said it only applies to new cars for 1 year. at which i replied the bulletin just came out in sept 07 to address the on going brake issue. he refutes that and sticks to his 1 year story. when i ask to see it in writing he says there isn't anything in writing but the service manager will TELL me the same thing.

i call Mb usa today only to argue with a customer service rep about the bulletin. he said the bulletin is only for internal memos and has no real meaning besides reminding dealers about the 1 year warranty on brakes on new cars. i asked to be transferred to someone by the name of Keith in the product advice dept. he said he will try to look up the bulletins and get back to me.

its seems as if mb as a whole is playing dumb to the fact that about 40-50 % of the sl's have brake squealing problems. like my complaint is the first time they heard about it.

but listen to this. my service adviser was quick to tell me i needed new brakes and rotors front and back for a car that only has 18k miles on it.

it always seems like i have to put up a big fight just for them to fix anything under warranty

Have you tried a few 60-0 stops and then cleaning your wheels and rotors? Just a thought that worked for me and kept me out of the stealer.

thanks sack, but i already tried both. the 60-0 stops work only temporarily. spraying water into my brakes has no effect once they dry.
