let me tell you....the rear bumper is nice and I like the new side vents but that front is aweful it screams japanese to me like lexus or something. it now looks like every other car on the road. with the current SL it is a head turner and I thought when they were going to replace it it would get even better and be more of a show stopper, I thought it would look more like the SLR but I guess I was wrong but it sucks they ruined a beautiful car.

Hard to beat the original design. I guess this is the best they could do to meet the new government reg's in Europe. The average citizen will not notice or think it is just a plan Mercedes from the front. I sure wouldn't pay the $$$ to get the new one. Used will be in higher demand. JMHO

I beg your pardon! Don't disgrace Lexus like that by comparing this monstrocity. What Lexus does it look like....none. I get so tired of some of you jerks ******* Lexus.
It must be Lexus-like because it's ugly?

I think lexus is a very nice car my bestfriend has a LS but im not a fan of the japanese products, I think there reliability is better than the germans and americans but never was a fan. You say "dont disgrace lexus by comparing it to this monstrocity" yeah I agree that the SL isnt going to be that good looking of a car when it comes out but I still wouldnt call it a "monstrocity" no matter what it looks like its still a fine german automobile and lexus should be honored to be compared to a benz. Also I have a G-Class and people are always "*******" it saying it looks like a fridge and its a box, its ugly and I dont care because people have there own opinion about things and I dont go online crying about it calling people "jerks".

I think Lexus did a good job on the exterior design of its new models. It is hard to say the same about the new Benz line-up, especially the C.

I've owned a SC400, LS400, LX470, SC430. Great dependable cars. Not as good looking as the Mercedes and not even close for driving fun.

I apologize about the "jerk" thing but I do get tired of all the negative comments about Lexus on this board. I visit here because I like Benz cars. Even owned one before I got tired of being a regular at the service dept. Still love the cars though. As a car enthusiast, I just don't like to see any brand repeatedly bashed.....especially the one I drive. So I was too strong, just like you guys are when you bash my brand.

If they could only get Lexus reliablity combined with Mercedes looks and feel we would have a winner. You only want to own a Mercedes as long as you have a bumper to bumper warranty.

No one else thinks these pic's are photoshop chops? If this is really the way the car is going to look then it's going to be awful. However, I strongly think these are photoshop chops

I bought a CPO car about 3 months ago. So far they put new front pads, rotors and sensors on the front since they missed that the fronts only had 15% pad left when they did the CPO. New Pads on the rear and replaced both rear struts. fixed the alarm system after replacing 3 controllers and 4 sensors. New electric latch on the trunk. Both trim pieces by the rear window (one broke when I lowered the top). A new seal between the header and the top, it was leaking. They've had my car for about 3 weeks of my 3 month ownership. But the service advisor has been great always had a loaner and no hassles. I figure that by the time I own this car for the 3 years and or 100K miles of CPO warranty I might have a whole new car This is really not a big problem to me since I am retired and my car is a hobby. Love the car love the service. I just figure that the $3995 to extended the warranty was well worth the cost. I think just the repairs that have been done so far would have cost $6000++

yeah I extended my warranty last year but now any repair they do now they told me they have to call the place that sells the warranties and they have to approve it....I had a front strut that was gone and before they worked on it they had to call the warranty place to approve.

They don't have to do that on the CPO extended warranty. It's treated just like the original factory bumper to bumper warranty thank God

The fact that the SL in this Photoshop picture has a matte-looking finish is what is bothering me the most. What happened to the new-car shine? Was it photoshoped out? The finish, chrome, etc on my 18-month-old SL doesn't look like that! If you look at the black SL in the "real photo," that is a car that I can get into (and looks like the finish on my SL.) But this silver car looks like it was painted to be an army tank and it is not impressing any of us.

I think the "real" facelifted SL will look A LOT better than this PS car and we can find some relief in that.

What type of "new government reg's in Europe" are going in place?

The front of the car has to be higher and more upright to protect people that might be hit by the car. Makes no sense to me. That is why they are changing the front of the SL and that is why it is not a design change to improve the looks of the car but mandatory to meet a new government reg. Of course there will be some that will buy it because it is new but most people will not think it is as good looking as the original 2003 SL design.

I guess that means all cars will be higher and more upright....

When I first got my '05 SL500, I thought it was the most beautiful car in the world. I have to say, to be honest, now at the end of 2007, it is begining to look dated. Even the new C class has a more contemporary look than the SL. I think the update would be an improvement.

Great car design never gets old. The current SL is used as an example in design schools of a great car design. The original 300SL was a great design. Yes it now looks dated but it is still a great design. Now you might want something new, that's a different story.

I say on with progress. I thought the prior CL and S classes were beautiful too when they first came. However, I think the evolution and updates to those cars have been improvements.
