SL/R230: How "significantly" will the SL 5 series change?
#52
Anyways, Im stuck between the Gransport or SL55 (6er outta the running). 2days after I wrote my previous thread, I saw an M6 parked next to an SL65 (both black) in front of a restaurant. No contest, the SL's presence dominated the BM. M6 looked cartoonish with the flared fenders, the 65 was straight "Big-Dog Status". SLs are a dime a dozen here though and the Gsport still has that exoticness to it. But I heard they have mech. issues. I guess Im getting off topic from the thread. Help...

Who cares if off topic. I am interested in helping people decide which cars they want to buy. I did not want to pay the mark up on the Masarati. But the G sport is a great exotic, the SL is luxury, not exotic. The 4.2 litre V8 in the Masarati has a Ferrari designed power plant and cranks 100 bhp over the SL500. If you have the $$$ for the Masarati, go for it. Keep in mind all high end cars have high end maitenance. Don't get me wrong I love my SL500 and would NOT trade her for anything, even a Masarati... Good luck, let us know which way you go. Oh, I am no wuss, my SL is luxury, My Nissan GT350is built for speed, it is my V8 killer.

Yeah, Maser Gransport, but the coupe. I think the Maser convertible looks like a chick's car. Good thing you got the SL or I'd be callin' you a wuss (heheh)...

it depends on the color too.....I like the 6s and M6s in black and white....I know a girl who has a maroon one and its not that nice...not really a headturner.....To me a SL has it all over the M6....the SL has alot of class to it and the name has been around for 50+ years and has more status to me.....but i see where your coming from with the size issue etc and plus not loving the new style for 2009 and i know you said before you like the convertables and theres not that many to choose from unless its like the new bentley or something other than that theres only the SL,M6 or like the jag XKR............

Standing still, the SL will blow the doors off both the M6s and a GT350!
It's that Amazing!

Yeah the heritage of the SL is second to none....I had a R129, own the R230 and wanted the next "new" SL until I saw that it was another facelift. I still think a car like the SL deserves a new body style and not so many facelifts based on its nameplate. I guess times have changed and MB just keeps on pumping out new models and facelifting everything like crazy...theyre turning into a highline German GM. The 6'er does have some heritage as well just not as much. Mostly I am considering it only due to the SL's small size. As a second car the SL wins IMO...but as daily driver I think the 6 will be more suitable for me. Plus Ive had my SL for a few years....even if it were a Lambo Id be sick of it.

yeah I know alot of people like that....they have a car for acouple of years and then its time to move on....I even know people that have a car for like 6 months and then they are sick of it and then they buy another one......I get too sentimental with cars i hate getting rid of them but once i do and get into a new car it all goes away and I could careless..............

Id only part with it if something else appealed to me more, but i dont see that happening any time soon. Perhaps an all new SL with dual clutch and other improvements might tempt me in the distant future, but I love these peanut lamps and my low hood!
