Good lord, just saw these pics on Leftlane News.... Say it ain't so.

The rear bumper and new exhaust design are sorry looking.
The new front bumper looks nice but the SLK (last gen) hood, Saturn grill and those headlights make the car look cheap. Overall I don't think it's a very good refresh, especially if they plan to replace the vehicle pretty soon.

What ever happend to model and brand differentiation? All the models and all the brands are morphing into one another. The present SL has nice smooth flowing lines and has enough style to not really look like the rest of the vehicles out on the road today. I almost think that MB wants people to mistaken an SLK for an SL and a C class for an S class. They basically look similar, only different in size. We know the difference, but the general populace?????

Steven I think you are correct. The new C class looks just like a smaller version of the S class. From a distance you can't tell them apart. They are trying to do the same thing with the SLK and SL. I am sure the reason is to sell a lot of the cheaper C's and SLK's because people will "feel" they are driving a "Mercedes Benz". We know the difference but most people don't notice. I had one of the trainers at the gym comment on the old SLK sitting in the parking lot and comment that it was kind of dirty and why would someone drive that expensive car in this weather? He then said I notice you don't drive yours in the bad weather. I ask him if he thought that was the same car that I drive? He said yes its the Mercedes hardtop convertible just like yours People just don't pay attention and that is what Mercedes is banking on.

Thats just fu*king lame....leaving the same rear lights, rear end area (besides the diffuser), side profile and roofline etc. combined with that front end to stay in line with the other current model's styling?? ....MB has ruined the SL heritage. Hopefully the next SL will be sick. Id be so pissed if I bought a 2008

wow, if that's the finalized design then, i am pretty disappointed. although alot ppl say you have to see it in person and then make a judgement, well, i saw the new CL in person and still, I think the w215 was better. The only exception being the new S class, which imho is flawless.

Now looking at pics of the 09' SL, i am more convinced the 230 bodystyle is timeless and i am glad to own one. The ultimate judge will be the consumer and if they are willing to drop 100K on a car which nearly resembles an SLK.

Why? If that is what the '09 will look like, I'd be happy I bought an '08.

The old C looks like the old S. Both were attractive cars. The new C does not look like the new S. The new S is at least pleasing from some angles, the new C does not have a good side.

OK the C class looks very good , especially with amg package as well as W221 S with amg package , so don't talk **** and DJAMER how can you say the previous CL is a better looking car than the current CL ? you have to be out of your mind to say that, the new Cl is the best looking Benz out there ESPECIALY AMG you just can't compare the RETARTED MEAN CAR FROM HELL cl63 or 65 to the old CL55 , 65 , ofcourse if you havnt seen a CL 63 in person then i shouldn't be telling you this

The new C looks good compared to its competition. The S is SICK and the CL63 sh*ts on this new facelifted SL.

Imagine if they plastered the new CL's front end on the 1999-2006 CL body. The real "New SL" is probably 2-3 years away. This 2009-? model will be considered the dark years of the SL for sure.

Some new pictures, I've found on germancarzone.com!

I don't like the new headresr - the integration of the Airscarf-system is terrible!!

I'm sorry, but that looks like a step back. If I didn't know anything about cars and you showd me the current SL next to that (both new), I would think this new model was the older model.

I'm sure from a technological and ride standpoint, it is improved, but from a look standpoint, clearly a step back in my opinion.

Looking forward to seeing some new pictures.

Besides the grille and hood ornament I don't see the resemblance, but I will look again.

hey buddy,

I owned a CL500 (w215) and my neighbor bought the new CL, so I speak from first hand experience, and btw, it's my opinion, it's not the gospel that everyone needs to live by.. I personally think the older generation of CL was a more attractive and exclusive looking then the current. Just my 2 cents. I am sure there are tons of who would disagree, so be it..
