SL550 Transmission/ Torque Conv. Replacement

I was wondering if anyone else has had this same problem. I have a 2007 SL550 with 18k miles on it.....mostly freeway. The transmission failed 10 days ago. My dealer said that there were metal shavings in the pan, fault code 2783, blah, blah, etc.....Mercedes replaced the transmission and torque converter. What I'm trying to figure out is if this is a common problem with the 7 speed trans. or just a one time problem that I was unlucky to have. Point being, once this guy gets off warranty, I would be looking at close to a 5 digit repair. No thanks. Any feedback?

Thanks.
John

John, yours is the first I've ever heard about and I read all the forums and did searchs on problems before I bought my 2008. One rule, you never own a MB that is not under warranty, unless you like to gamble . I will either trade mine within 4 years or 50K miles or I will buy the extended MB warranty before my basic warranty runs out. Did the dealer give you any thoughts on why yours failed???

have not heard of a similar problem. As I am sure you already know, get all the work in writing (certified by MBUSA) and see if mercedes will provide you with a complimentary extended warranty for your troubles.
