When do you think the next SL Generation gonna come out
i have a cls 2006 and i am thinking of changing it by the end of this year for 2009 SL. but if the next generation is coming out in 2011 or 2012 i don't think it would be the right thing to do ??? any confirmed information ?

Buy it, drive it, enjoy it.
Stop worrying about it! Cars are bad investments. I have seen more crybabies on this site about having the newest thing. OH MY GOD YOU MEAN THEY RELEASED A NEW VERSION??!! THOSE *******S!!! It's a car, not a trophy. It's meant to be driven not admired. If the way you look to others is SO important, and your Mercedes defines it, you are a WEAK person.

Go for a lease on a 2008 SL 500/600. When the lease is up, maybe a new generation SL will be out and you can trade in the 08 SL. In the mean time, enjoy one of the premier luxury automobiles.

I would say that 2014 or 2015 would be the new model date. It will be battery operated with a square frontend made of foam so if you hit a person it won't hurt them

Go look online....they all say 2011 or 2012. The 2009 redesign is not relevant. It is only being done because of new European laws with the front end. Further, the small redesign done in 2007 only went 2 years. They will have a new SL in 2011 or 2012. I would not do anymore than a 24 or 36 month lease on a 2009.

mjr24 Great point on the European safety mandate.
Also lets remember sometimes the pictures do not do the design justice. I'm fairly critical of the 2009 design as well but I reserve my final opinion until I see it in person. I have frequently changed positively after a good walk around.

Well you've got 3 more years of the R230, 2009, 2010 and 2011, then for 2012 you'll see a new model. Facelift is too extensive for a new model just yet. Of course there is no "confirmed" information right now and there won't be for years.

the previous model lasted for around 10 years and i do remember in the last few years if not the last one, they have provided the sl with xenon lights and did some major changes before the shift to the new model. to keep your sales up specially for a 7 years old car you have to do some major changes otherwise people will just wait for the new model to come out. i think it would change within 2 to 3 years at most. if i decided to move to the new SL leasing is the best thing to do now.

The European pedestrian safety standards require all their cars to comply by the dates below.
PHASE 1 TESTS
First phase tests (ACEA/Joint Research Centre (JRC) 2 tests – legform (bumper only) and combined child and adult area tested with one headform to be met by:
1st July 2005 by all new types
1st July 2010 by 80% of all new vehicles, 90% by 2011 and 100% by 2012
PHASE 2 TESTS
Second phase tests (EEVC) –4 tests – legform, upper leg, child head, adult head to be met by:
2010 by all new types
2012-2014 by all new vehicles
Cars designed before 2005 can continue to be sold even with minor facelifts until 2012. New cars designed after 2005 have to comply with the standards, like the Jag with its pop-up hood or other cars with the soft point hood clearance to the engine.
So it’s easy to expect a new design for the SL by 2012.
