My SBC pump went out on me.....:(
I have been trying to sell my SL for a couple weeks now and all of a sudden a brake warning light went on 3 days ago (not the one that comes on for pads, rotors, etc). Of course, I have 80k miles and am way out of warranty.
Luckily for me....Mercedes has a 10 year warranty on the SBC pump. It probably saved me $2,000.

wow, do they?
the pump on my 2000 S went out a few years ago and i think i paid about a grand to replace it...
i didn't realize the SLs had an extended warranty on their pump. Is that on all 03s?

I think it is on the SL's and the E's. Possibly the CLS.
It had to do with the non-brake by wire situation and
premautre failure of the SBC if I am not mistaken.

It indeed was. The last thing you want to do when selling a car is throw $2k more into it for something that just happened mechanically. That's rims for the new car.

when i sold my 2000 S class i took it in the shorts due to no warranty. i ended up writing up my own 6 month drive train warranty just in case something major came up just to unload it.
as soon as the warranty on my SL expired I picked up a 4yr/100,000 mile warranty so that I can at least sell it at a reasonable price when the time comes.
after this i think i'm going back to leasing to avoid the hassle and lock in the loss from the start.
hopefully you can get a good price for your SL.
best of luck!

where did you buy your 4yr/100,000 mile warranty? I am looking into buying an extended exclusionary policy for my recently purchased '03 SL500 from a local private-owner.

I went in for something else and was told the SBC pump was a "recall" on my 03 SL500 so it was replaced while there. I didnt have any prev problems with it.

The pump doesnt fail per say in many instances, the computer just thinks that number of times the pump has been used is beyond its life so it throws a fail code. If the pump failed, you would need to brake very very hard for the car to stop.
But only the E, SL, and CLS along with the SLR have SBC brakes. They carry 10 year unlimited mileage warranties. for 2007+ E and CLS they removed the SBC system and the SL had it removed I beleive for 2009.

Yes, MB Fanatic is right....I think the error code I got was it was past it's service life. There were no problems with the brakes at all.
