Is the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S a quiet tire?
The TOYO T1R are on back order for 6 months. I need new tires now. I was wondering if any SL owner has the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S has a treadwear rating of 400.
The orginal tires on my SL were Michelin Pilot Sport with a treadwear of 220. The orginal tires lasted about 21,500. The TOYO T1R with a treadwear rating of 280 lasted about 22,000.

I bought them a couple of months ago to replace my factory equipment PS on my 2005 SL500 and I couldn't be happier. Very quiet and secure in the rain as well. I can't comment on snow performance or mileage. (I don't intentionally take the SL inthe snow but did get caught once--a frightening experience with the original PS tires.)

My experience with my Michelins. PS and PS2 has been they get
louder as they wear. Not bad. But it is a noticable issue for some.
As far as taking an SL out in the weather.
Not my car unless I get stuck in some unexpected rain.

I was looking back on my invoice and I noticed that the original Michelin PS lasted about 21,500 miles. I just want my tires to last more than 20,000 miles.

I have run Pilot A/S on my 300M for about 4 years. The tires lasted about 30-35K miles easily, and that was some harsh driving everyday.
I have them on my CLS now, since October. They were put on at about 30K, I have about 45K on the CLS now. Tires are still in great shape, showing little wear.
On the E320, I have Michelin Exalto A/S and those tires have been awesome in every respect, and still going strong. This is not exact, but I know over 35K miles have been put on those tires, and they are still going strong. I have about 2-3 more months on them, and that's my daily driver.
Another thing I noticed, the Pilot A/S have a TW rating of 400 as opposed to the 220 on the PS2's. If you check the customer comments on TireRack, a lot of them make comments on the life of the tire as well. Not to mention, the A/S are a little cheaper than the PS2 as well.
Oh, to answer the quiet question, yes they are quiet. The only get loud when you get to the end of life, they roar a little bit.
Hope this helps answer the question.

For me, l like Bridgestone Potenzas for the SL. Quiet, responsive, and they look great! Tire Rack rates them at the top of their list for this car.

I replaced the pzero reds on my R129 with the Pilot A/S last year. They were a huge improvement over the pzero. The one thing I've noticed; they're getting noisy. I've had them on for 10,000. They are very nice wet or dry. Also, very dependant on tire presure, a couple of pounds make a big difference in noise & performance.
Good Luck with your search.
