Compare SL550 with Aston Martin Vantage

Thinking about getting a Aston Martin Vantage. Hard to compare these two cars, AM is more of a sports car with a 6 speed. But I think these two vehicles are two of the very best vehicle designs and the most beautiful vehicles ever made. With a life objective of owning at least once all the cool cars I can afford I thought I would try and get a good deal on a 2007 Aston Martin Vantage. They drop in value like a rock after they drive them off the lot. A 2007 AMV8 with 4-5K miles that listed new for around $127K will go for mid $90's after 2 years. What do you guys think/know of the Aston Vantage.

I think that the AM is a hotter and more flashy car compared to the SL. However the SL is a proven design and probably better as a daily driver. One company makes 30k entry level sedans, various 100k+ flagships, and many models in between. The other company is ASTON MARTIN. Bonds car and basically a different type of driving experience in comparison to the slightly generic SL. I love MB but AM truly is an exotic in comparison mostly due to the name plate and overall prestige. Different strokes for different folks. Personally Id go DB9 over both choices.

I see literally dozens of SL's every day and maybe a few AM's every week here in LA.

Get it as soon as you can. Its an amazing experience. For 2007 there were some changes to the chasis to make it even more refined than before. For about $90K its a good deal.

Murtaza, you will have that DB9 shortly, dont worry about it. I am patiently waiting as well.

I briefly considered the AM before I bought my SL in July. It was just a little too exotic for me. I really wanted a drop top and as much as I love the Vantage, it loses something in the convertible version. But the coupe is just stunning. (esp in Red)

Where I live in rural Ohio, an SL is about as exotic a car as you'll see.

Deal did not happen. They wanted to give me $74K for my 2008 SL550 with 5K miles on it and they wanted $99K for their 2007 Aston Martin Vantage with 4K miles on it. I would of gone for a fair deal closer to $13K difference but $25K difference is crazy. Especially with the Aston Martin dealer 240 miles from my house, for service and repair issues.

Murtaza you should keep the 55 and trade in the 500 for a DB9 bro

Ex-Beemer I agree that in some parts the SL is quite exotic esp. in red...

MB-FAN: Dude you could have a DB9 yesterday...A SL63 and CL63....thats just so damn gangster...not to mention a CLS K4 hanging around for kicks.

SL2003: Dude dont give up...keep pushing. With this economy anything is possible. Remember I got 25k off a new SL near the end of 2005.

In away I am glad they did not deal. My SL in KC is still rare. I see one about 2 times a month. Plus I bought this one new so it was a virgin when I got her. My best bet would be to keep her and renew/extend the warranty when the time comes. Figure if I kept her for 7 years I would only have around 70K miles on her Still new!!!

Yeah, one of the nice things about not living in Cali or Florida is that "nicer" cars are rarer. In New England I almost never see a ferrari (rare), lambo (never), aston (really rare), etc. Bentley's can be see with some regular occurrance, but that's about it. The SL doesn't stand out, but I probably only see another one 2 or 3 times a week.

I'll say the Vantage has a very nice exhaust note though. It has a nice growl compared to my 600. With the lack of dealers around here, there's also something to be said for not having to travel 50, 100, 200 miles to get serviced.

Of course, can you imagine the below?

Valet: Sir, can I get your car?
Sir: Yes, please. It is the white veyron.
Valet: I'm sorry, sir. Which one?
Sir: !@*@#%&

SL550 Vs. Aston Martin

I looked at both cars in 2007 and chose to buy the SL550. Reasons include: Mercedes is excellent with service issues; I have had 4 other Mercedes cars; also I do like the convertible hardtop. However, it is still my dream to eventually get a new AM V8 coupe; they are more exotic and awesome.

In the British forums you get more the idea that the AM is just an expensive Ford or is it GM ?

Just rent one for a weekend and see for yourself.

AM is an expensive Ford? You mean like how Bentley is an expensive VW and Rolls is an expensive BMW?

When I roll up in a DB9 one of these days you try telling the model in my passenger seat she's in a Ford

Is that the aston where you have to push a button, then wait 15 sec to get the rear gear ?
