SL wipers question
I loved the single jumping wiper on my last SL (1993 600SL), it never streaked or chattered but the wipers on my new SL (2005 SL500) tend to skip/chatter on the last swipes after I've used the windshield washers. I don't know whether this is due to something (redwood sap?) on the windshield (although it doesn't seem to matter whether or not I've just washed the car), or the blades need replacing, or whether this is just a feature of this model. I'd be interested to hear from other drivers how well their wipers work and whether anyone recommends something like Rain-X?

My guess would be the blades. I've never had a chatter problem with my wipers. (but then again I think I've only driven my SL in the rain twice, so I may not be the most reliable wiper resource)

Like you, I love the mono wiper on my CLK. The SL's wipers chatter occasionally, but usually on the first swipe.

My OEM wipers chattered like crazy so I switched to a traditional blade on frame type wiper. Only NAPA auto parts seems to sell these type of wipers big enough for the SL (WIP 6002612) and they have never chattered.

That's good to know, thanks! There's a NAPA Auto Parts store just down the road so I think I'll go and look into it.

Get the glass really clean and with a Blade thats not too old you should have ZERO Blade Chatter. Mine is Garaged 100% and that seems to make a difference too.
Also here in Cali mine has only been in the rain like a handfull of times in 2 years.

Yeah, I don't think it's rained since January (although that was some rain!). I'll try giving everything a super good clean and see how that works out - it's more of a problem when I get in the car at 4am and it's been parked under the redwoods and pciked up some sap spots. I don't want to clean the windshield myself with glass cleaner (because it's 4am!) and when I use the windsheild washers, the wipers don't leave a nice clean arc.
