Consumer Reports - SL on "Recommended List"

Just recently announced was that 6 Mercedes-Benz models have made the Consumers Reports "Recommended List". These include the SL, S550, E350, ML, SLK and C-Class. There were no MB models on the list last year. While the overall ranking is only 27th (from 33rd last year) which shows there is still a ways to go, at least MB is clearly headed in a good direction.

That is good news. Does that only pertain to '09 models or does that apply to any earlier years also?

I checked.

The '09 is a recommended new car.

No SLs are recommended as used cars.

'03 and '05 are on the list of used cars to avoid. '07s have average reliability. Insufficient data for '04 and '06 and '08.

FWIW....

I understand why the 03 might be on the "avoid" list but wonder why the 05 is? Any other info as to why? Thx!

Because, the Red is good, and Black is bad.

But, while I own a '05 SL500, I do not agree with Consumer's Report.

I own a 2005 SL55. Its been Flawless for the 2 years I have owned it.

The 03 was the first model year and they made a bunch. So yes those
cars had some issues.

Six Mercedes-Benz models, including the redesigned C-Class sedan, the sporty SL, and the ML350 SUV, have improved to average reliability. As a result, they are now recommended (see What's Up and What's Down).
