SL/R230: fog lamps

fog lamps
I have been told by my Mercedes dealer that there is no way that my SL can have the fog lights automatically turn on whenever the main lights are on. As such, even though my main lights turn on and off depending on whether it is night or day, I have to manually switch the fog lights on and off. Does anyone know if it is possible to have both lights automatically be on together?

Not without re-wiring it (wouldn't recommend that).
But what's the value proposition? Just for looks?
I have the Bi-Xenons and they provide great light, especially the hi-beams.

I have just been reading through the manual yesterday and it is quite clear that u can not have the fog lights come on automatically with the main headlights, might be a safety thing. u just have to move the switch. Most people never use those lights

I agree that the fog lights only add minimal light (which is why it is not worth the effort to manually turn them on and off). However, they do look nice when they are on. I was just hoping that there was a way to have them turn on automatically like many cars do. Oh well...

Fog lights are meant to be used in combination with parking lights. They throw a low, flat beam over which you can hopefully see something when the visibility is poor. When used in combination with headlights, you defeat the purpose of fogs, as your visibility is impaired by the massive reflection off the fog by the headlights.
If something really ticks me off, its drivers that use fogs when the visibility is fine. Especially those blinding rear fogs on BMWs, etc.
If you want to show off, fit a row of spots on your bonnet (or roll-over bar).
Regards,
