I'm sure you could go over to Lowe's or Home Depot and pay one of those guys standing out front to ride a bike for 9 hours and charge it up.

This is a good unit. I have them installed on over 100 backup generators to keep the start batteries fully charged. It has a regulator to keep from over charging. Good Luck. http://www.batterystuff.com/solar-chargers/SP-2.html

It won't do any harm but it is not necessary, a lot of people including people at the dealership do not understand the complicated battery system in the R230 but I have done a lot of reading into the technical side of it and can tell you that the DC/DC converter is a built in battery charger for the starter battery and as long as you have a tender connected to the Aux battery in the trunk the starter battery will be kept topped off.
You can test it quite easily which I have done by the way. By monitoring the voltage on the starter battery oven a few days. What you will find is that the voltage will drop a little then come back up. This is not possible without the built in charger. You can do what ever you want I am just trying to save you time and money.
