Meh... this is totally a matter of personal opinion, but I think a stock, barebones SL is way better looking. I'm not at all a fan of that probiscus front end that MB has been toying with on the SLR and SLK. Why take a perfectly good car and try to turn it into something it's not? Again, just personal taste & my $.02.

I think the wider tail looks nice on the SLR. It seems like this conversion can only be done on the 04 models and up. I wonder how much this conversion will cost. Man now you can go from an 04 R230 to an 09 R230 or even an SLR.

The only two possible nice things are: the exaust in the front and rims
But I'll take only rims... I like the exaust in the back. Or in the front but only on the real deal - slr.

I like the side exhausts and the rear bumper change. Though I'd feel dirty about trying to look like I spent $350,000+ when I only paid about $60,000 or so (used car plus kit).

Speaking of the SLR, has anyone seen one in the wild at all? The one sitting in the showroom of our local MB dealer was there for almost two years before they hauled it off to L.A. to be sold. The tires were probably flat-spotted -- what a shame.

Even though there is a huge element of poseur and blasphemy, the execution of the kit was pretty good.

Maybe not the wild (more like the vet?) but there was one coming out of Fletcher Jones's collision center at the same time as mine. Apparently the guy's windshield had been starred, and it cost something like $89,000 to replace the windshield. I'll take another car for that amount, thanks.

How sad to take such a beautiful car and spoil it that way, and how ironic that "spoilers" are included (literally).

This same car on eBay pictured was at SEMA last year. I have pictures of it and saw it close up. It looks really good. It sounded awesome (exhaust note) as well. In all honesty though, I wouldn't do it to my sl. I love my car the way it is (well maybe some lowering on the 20" wheels I just got would be nice!!).

It was a black drop-top SLR wasn't it? I seen it. Ridiculous price...

Just my opinion but way to much. The SLR front end I think looks silly on the SLR let alone bolting onto this. Side pipes....why? Rear exhaust on SL55 sounds perfect. Now, that being said..I do think the new SL65 black is pretty outrageous although overpriced. Just my two bits.

This is coming from a casual SL500 owner. I remember seeing an SLR about a year ago outside a fancy restaurant. The pictures of the conversion look nothing like an SLR to me. Is it just me?? I seem to remember a way longer hood. That kit to me just looks like an SL500 with a body kit (which it is) and not SLR wanna be body. I can't imagine anyone thinking that you had a real SLR with that kit on.

BTW, nice description in the auction:
Wingdoors are perfectly designed and ingenieered ,just what u expect from a Mercedes Benz and nothing less.

It sounds like you only have contact with people who take their "Car & Driver" magazines into the bathroom with them and read their car manuals under the sheets with a flashlight. The kit isn't meant to fool real car people, it's meant more to 1) make the car more unique in a small sea of existing SLs and/or 2) fool non-car people (which all leggy, blonde swimsuit models fall into this category) into thinking it is a more expensive or unique car than it actually is.

To some, ugliness is beautiful.

Well, at least it doesn't have a disturbing, goofy-@ss smile.

That pic is brilliant! Personally I think the designers at MB who backed that proboscus idea on the SLR and SLK should be taken out back and shot.
