I've gotta say, your sig pic had me doing a double-take. The way it looks, not only did you remove the wheels and lights, you removed the engine, too, and they still took the SL off your hands! I guess the resale value is better than I thought!

nice choice! i always thought the next step from an sl would be an exotic. what year is that and how many miles? the only thing that worries me about exotics is the exotic maintenance.

360's are fun cars, and very different in character to your SL.

Never driven one, but I'm imagining this is a potential candidate for "Biggest Understatement of 2009".

Well, maybe the biggest understatement of this week.

The "Biggest Understatement of 2009" will probably be "We will need to make a small federal tax adjustment (hike). Everyone in this country will have to sacrifice a little bit to make this whole thing work." I swear something to this effect will be said before the end of '09.

One important thing to keep in mind with all this talk of budget deficits, is that it actually factors in the Iraq war costs, unlike the previous administration which preferred to keep that "off the books". What I'm not edumacated on is how much of the budget that is.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the war has cost less in its 6+ years than the first stimulus package that Bush passed in 2008, total approx. $602 billion. (http://www.nationalpriorities.org/costofwar_home). Funnily enough, though the first "stimulus" package passed quite readily after a few complications, it didn't really help anything. Now we're going to try it again (twice more) and expect a different result this time? Except this time, we're gonna add another 1.5 trillion to the total. Yeh, that'll make a difference.

360's are great cars, but to me they are way too 'user friendly', more like cars, than an event, which is what I think of, when I think of an exotic car. Even when I was daily driving my F40, every drive to work or the market was special.

360 maintenance isn't as bad as 355/348 cars. Even though they still have to have timing belts changed, the engine stays in the car, which cuts plenty of time.

As long as you get a car that has been taken care of and maintained, the 360 can be pretty bullet proof. The one big win will be less depreciation than the Merc.

Thanks for all the kind words. Buying an F-car is something I've always wanted to do. Buying an F-car out of warranty takes *****, no matter how rich or poor you are. A major service should run around $5K every 30,000 miles.

It took me 6 months to find this car which was alot of fun and alot of reading...thanks Fchatters. There is alot of junk out there and with this type of vehicle it is extremely important to get a car with a good pedigree. This is a great time to get into the exotic market.

My short list of vehicles I was looking at:

360, R8, M6, XKR, Gallardo, GTR...almost bought the R8 but I needed a drop top and I would have wasted $50K driving off the lot.

Test drive sold me!

The 360 isn't as slow as many people think, it is made of aluminum & runs high 12s in the 1/4 mile. Plus, I rarely ever used 100% of the V12's power. The car everyone should fear is the Z06 or the GT-R.

MB still makes great cars though, and i'll be back someday...had to get this Fcar thing out of my system.

Maybe, but that little gem is irrelevant on the highways isn't it? I know the 55s/600s/65s are faster because I've owned both (and have driven the 65), and on the straights even the slowest of them ( SL55 ) will take out the Spyder.

Regardless, I'm sure you didn't make the purchase for speed entirely and the Ferrari looks sick! I was merely wondering how you felt going from 590 ft lbs of torque to 270...

I don't know the car, but I'd imagine that it doesn't weigh a full 2 metric tons.... Comparing the drop in torque to the drop in weight should make it still pretty nice, neh?
