Unhappy Strange problem with SBC/2007 SL 350 (Euro)

Hi,

some time ago I faced a strange problem with my SL: After a long traffic hold-up
(> 1 hour)and an extensive use of the "SBC-Hold" I got the message "SBC-Hold not
available" on the display. At the same time the indication for the 7-G-Tronic
"S" and "D" also vanished and the transmission obviously worked only from 3.-5.
gear, in any case reduced. The car accellerated only very slowly. It was not
possible to change gear manually. When I switched off ignition and restartet
after appr. 5 minutes, everything was fine again.

Any idea what the reason for this was and how the SBC System and the 7-G-Tronic
is connected?

Best regards

rab

Hi, Rab,

I can only guess, as DC emasculated the SBC for the United States so we can't enjoy all the things SBC was made to do. Perhaps, after that extended period of time, maybe the system's sensors weren't clear that the extended use of SBC Hold was intentional, thought it was a failure, and put the car into "limp home" mode? I would imagine that the SBC system diagnostics would be reset and re-run by restarting the car. Are there any system messages in memory available from the MFD?

I agree. Like all computers the little guys just get confused sometimes. You have to reboot them by turning off the car. I saw something similar with our S550 once.

@mlandis:

No, there is no message in the MFD now. As described the "S" and "D" for the setting of the automatic transmission didn´t show up while the problem occurred. Now everything is o.k. But: For how long??

Best regards

I'd imagine it is fine, now. At the worst, you could take it in for a diagnostic check, but if there are no status messages in memory, then it wasn't serious, just annoying.

If an issue occurred that was important, even after the message disappeared from the MFD, there would still be a message in the memory. An additional menu would appear before the "Settings..." menu named "Malfunction memory". If that doesn't appear, then I would ask the dealer the next time I took the car in, but not lose much sleep over it.
