Engine missfire - Change spark plugs?

I just took my SL600 to the dealer when the check engine light was on and the car lost its power. I told them to check the IC pump as well, but today they called me and told me they had to replace some coils or something which was under CPO warranty...however they also recommended me to change my spark plugs. I asked "all 24 of them?" they said "yup! you gotta change them 5 years or 100k miles or they MIGHT not going to warranty you next time if that happens."

The cost is 1300 including the labor, the car has only 32k miles and is a 2004....is it really necessary for me to do it???

I'd do them myself, if you can't you probably have no choice.I would also look around for a indy to do them .

As I understand it, the reason for changing plugs after 5 years even if miles are low is because of possible corrosion. You might be able to get away with removing one plug and inspect it for corrosion. If it is clean, then the other 23 should be also. If you remove the plugs yourself, be very careful removing the spark plug wire. They can be easily damaged.

good luck

You can do it yourself but it is time-consuming and a total PITA. A day's effort could pay off in saving big bucks though. Make sure to do them one at a time and label the ones you've done already. Beer will affect the 'ol memory as the project progresses.

I guess where you're at they don't put any alchohol in those p*ssy drinks. Over here though, if you pick up a Long Island Iced Tea at any of the drive through daquari shops, you won't be seeing straight for the next three hours!

LOL -- I guess the whole "don't drink and drive" thing is moving its way into your state about as fast as planned parenthood...

(Referring to a joke in an earlier thread, y'all, not attempting to make a stereotype.)

There's drinking and driving laws here too. That's why when they hand you your drink, they hand you the straw separately. (Again, not sh*tting you.) They only recently just started cracking down on drunk driving but that won't prevent those lifelong alchoholics from doing what they do best!

Oh and we have planned parenthood here too. Louisiana is mostly Catholic though a passer-by wouldn't be able to tell except from all the churches.

I got the same problem. What's crazy is that over night it goes away once in a while. I already had taken it to the dealer and they told me no problems. Anyone else in know of such a thing? I'm worried, I don't have warrenty either. Exactly 25016 miles

They changed some ignition coils under warranty and fixed the problem. I went ahead and changed all 24 spark plugs (as the dealer recommended)with the body shop i go to.

CRAZY!!!

Today I start the car up and a chuck of blue smoke shoots out of both my exhausts and notice my rpms go up and down. The Check engine goes on and off. Now I am really pissed. So after I pull out of my driveway the car drives fine. I just changed the oil 300 miles ago as well. Anyone might know what the problem could be? My dealership tells me there no signs of any problem.
