Air suspension issue

Hello all, I recently perchased a 2003 SL 500 with 46,000 miles on it. I love this car but for some reason when the car is in park the suspension rises and then drops like every five mins or so. Everyone who sees it seems to love it, i even like when it does it. My question is, is this normal?

our cars dont use air suspensions, I believe we use pneumatic suspensions (liquid instead of air).

It might be that your ABC hoses are leaking or ABC pump dying or struts failing....there are many possibilities when it comes to our famous suspensions failing...If you have warranty, just bring it in the dealership!

Uhmmm....pneumatic means pressurized gas, not liquid. However, I dont know what our cars actually use.

Nope.

I did a search on this site for "abc suspension problem" and found the following thread:

Sounds similar (albeit not identical) to your issue.

hmm...I am pretty sure our suspensions are "pneumatic" but then I guess its gas then?

Yes, all SLs use ABC which is is pressurized at 2900psi, which allows the system to make corrections 3 times per sec.

You may want to get the ABC fluid level checked. If you notice the car sitting on one car, and their is no visible leaking, then, it's a couple of things. First, if the car rises automatically upon startup, the ABC pump is fine. Good news. And no leaking, that's better news.

If it drives fine and only sits one side after parking, then, likely it's a valve blockage (warranty covers this) or low fluid (not covered)

My car is getting all four sides flushed for a cost of 800.00. This is not covered under the warranty but it's recommended around 40,000 miles according to the mb master technician.

$800 for an ABC flush!!!

Lets see, I paid $560 for the MB Star Compact 3 and $70 for 18 liters of Pentosin.
I certainly don't need the $tealer for non-warranty work.

LOL -- depends on the priorities... paying $170 for it to not be my problem sounds pretty good to me.

(I know, I know, you only buy the software/diagnostics once, but I couldn't resist commenting.)
