Navtech dvd upgrade

i was thinking about upgrading my navigation disc for my 05 system. has anyone done this recently? was it worth it? Navtech is now asking $250 for the new disc and im not sure its worth it.

I just upgraded mine from the 2005 disc. The street updates and POI's alone were worth it for me because I live in an area that has grown a lot since 2005. Other than that I do not see much difference. The jump from 2005 to 2009 is too big so I had to use a 2006 disc as an intermediate upgrade before the 2009 disc would work.

On the off chance no copyright issues are involved, can these discs be copied?

i went from 05 to 08 and they had to change the drive unit in the trunk as it does not read the later disc. warranty did it but the nav. is a waste of time....save your money

ok now im really confused. are you saying the 09 disc won't work in my car without changing the drive unit in the trunk?? my car is not under warranty and i dont think my extended will cover that. so i would have to pay to change it myself?

did you have to pay for the 06 disc or did someone else lend it to you?

I borrowed a 2006 disc before using the 2009 disc.

I did not have to change my nav drive to use the 2009 disc. Seems a bit odd since nothing has changed. I know another person with a 2005 SL who also upgraded to the 2009 disc and did not have to replace their nav drive either. I'm guessing they replaced yours because their was something wrong with it that was unrelated to the new nav disc.
