Command replacement

Does anyone know how you set the clock if you rip out Command on an 04 SL600? Insted of replacing my broken command (which is a pretty crappy piece of technology) I am installing a7" kenwood touchscreen with nav, bluetooth and ipod integration. I know I will lose the telephone button functionality on the steering wheel, and the cd changer. I am fine with that. What I don't know is how I will set the clock up on the dash since it is set with the command unit.

You can also set the clock via the settings menu with the steering wheel controls and dash display. Go to the "time" top level menu. One of the options (maybe the only option) is "sync clock with head unit". If you select "no", the next screen will allow you to set the time from the steering wheel controls. Caveat: this works on my 2005 SL500. Not sure about 03/04s.

Command removal and clock setting

Unfortunately MB must have added that in 05. For 04 the only option I get it 12h or 24h.

I am hoping there is a way to recode the command to show their is no commnad (so the time function is set by the steering wheel/instrument cluster). I would like to "turn off" the telephone in this way too.

One of the other threads said that it was possible, but in a different command unit.

both are possible... it involves coding of the ic using SDS. it should be pretty simple if the dealer knows what he's doing

Just installed a Kenwood 9140 this evening in my 2000 430 CLK Cab and have the same clock issue.

As the previous set up was with Command I can now not set the clock as it only allows me to choose 12/24 but I can't set it as is outlined in the owners manual. Is this something I can reconfigure or will I need the dealer to reconfigure now that there is no command system installed?

You are the first to go with an aftermarket navigation and the main reason is you will need to change all the audio of the car....nothing of original stuff can work with aftermarket navigation so you must rewire everything but a lot people will be interested. I opened a tread about it in the past but looking at problems I gave up. Please after it tell us if you had problems and take some photos to post to see how it look like

The dealer must code out the navigation system in the instrument cluster. This will remove the navigation page and add the clock settings page in the settings menu.

I'm very interested in your results, I've heard nothing but bad about the stock set up and I'm a big fan of how easy the new kenwood ipod and bluetooth systems work. I am curious if one of the aftermarket steering wheel integration kits work with the controls and what problems you have had. The updated gps system would be one of the few reasons I would want to go with a newer sl and drop the extra money. pics would be great!
