My Throttle Cut Out While Driving??? Help

Hey guys, I got a 03' SL500 with 41,500 miles on it. I was driving to the store the other day and my gas pedal went totally dead, had it floored down, all the way past the click point. Nothing! If you were to hold it down for like 10secs. or more, it would barely give any throttle. Very weird, has anyone experienced this, anything I should worry about. Thanx guys n gals

Mine just did the same thing as well. Very strange sensation. I pulled over, turned the car off, restarted and the throttle reponse was normal again. This could be dangerous in the wrong situation. This is the second time it has happened. I have reported it to my service advisor but they did not see any codes or anything in the computer.

May have found the answer

I did a search of the forums and found it may be the accelerator pedal module. I do not know how to copy the link for you but search under accelerator pedal module and you will see many posts. It appears that no check engine codes are set when this happens.

At least it wasn't the opposite where the vehicle went full throttle on it's own.

Anyways, my S500 has done something similar. Twice the car acted as if it were in neutral (pressing gas would only rev engine, while car was in drive). The second time was the last, and that was about a year or so ago. If your SL keeps acting up like this I'd take it in to the dealer.

I did the same as C5DRVR, pulled into a parking lot, shut it off once, turned it back on and nothing, shut it off again and turned back on again and it was back. I'm just glad it wasn't my brakes that stopped working, that would be bad, oh well, Thanx everyone

I don't know if this is the problem or not, but I will say that when my starting battery was going out on my 2005 SL500 it a very specific problem several times. After coming to a stop rather abruptly or stopping after a quick turn, the accelerator pedal would respond veeeery sluggishly. As in I couldn't get the car to go more than 40mph with it hard to the floor. After purchasing and changing the starter battery (under the front hood, passenger-side towards the cabin) all those problems went away.
I hope this helps.
