Mags praise the new SL55 AMG

stopped by my local Borders and read a couple of mags (Mercedes Enthusiasts, Car, and Evo) and which all had tests of the car. They all absolutly loved it and said that it took the SL500 perfect balance and gave it a supercar appeal. In fact they even quoted the exhaust note to sounding like a Le Mans Car. Plus they loved the new gear shifting paddles and said that it took the mercedes to an entirely new level. I might pick up a copy of Car tommorow and will be glad to write down the highlights of the article

The article in "Car" Magazine Feb 2002 about the SL 55 is fantastic! To quote the last sentence of the article:

"If I were working at Ferrari or Aston right now, I'd be doing some serious soul-searching."

They loved the car!

Quotes from Top Gear Test

""we couldn't have imagined that what we'd encounter upon arrival was car capable of making a 911 Turbo feel... well, I suppose the word I'm racking my brain for here is ... slow"

""The Sl55 has left me utterly flabbergasted. It goes without saying that it looks like it's dressed to kill, but first and foremost is the way in which this perfectly sculpted mass of metl is propelled along"

"No matter how high the gear, nor how low the revs, there's always plenty of power on tap to see you past slower traffic"

Quote from the latest Autosport with regard the DTM series and the future:

"Mercedes is investigating the possibility of creating a German Based GT-type series to recreate the kind of sports car sprint events that proved so popular in the mid 80's......
Mercedes currently race their CLK saloon, but have both their SL55 and SLR road cars ready to rumble....."

It goes on to discuss the possibility of Mercedes going head to head with Porsche in a new GT series...also LeMans etc....in the future...maybe 2004...and beyond

Mercedes has been encouraging porsche to get involved and if they do it would result in a rulew change to accommodate aGT format which would probably mean a switch to either an SL55 or SLR based race car for Mercedes...this GT could hommalgated for both LeMans and ALMS or FIA GT. This would also give them a format to go after the 550 Marenello GT.

Got go now and watch the start of the Daytona 24!!

Read the Mercedes Enthusiast Mag and was very impressed with the review on the SL55 as well as other MB. Really good mag!
