Just got my 2011 SL550
Just got my new 2011 sl550 mystic blk "but its kinds very dark blue" this color I love it, but it makes me crazy that its called mystic black, I looked at the real blue and its not what I have. This color looks black at night blue in the sun.
Anyway im a parapligic and I use hand controlls, the wheels come off and sit behind my head and the chair "titanium 9 lbs" sits passanger "trunk if with someone". I had gone into to the dealer to buy an E63 and tested the SL550, and thats all she wrote. One reason of many was my chair, the opening on the E63 is so small, and the SL is much larger with a bigger door. Then I just thought, I will not use that much power "E63" as often as I will cruise with the top down, and the 550 is no slouch, it moves, just fine. The hydrolics are like a low rider, "cool" it goes up down a couple inches on demand, amazing stuff. When passing you hit 120 before you know it and you can stay at 120 with no noticable effort at all. I have put on 2,000 miles in 3 weeks, I just love this thing!!! This is now my every day rain or shine ride.

Welcome to the club !
The geek part of me really wants to see how they outfitted the hand controls on an SL. Would you mind sharing a pic or two? Was it done at the dealership or aftermarket ?

I never used to be able to test drive but now I put controls and tested the masarati the Xkr the 911s pdk the m5 and E63 and of course it was the SL550 that got my money, it was also the most solid. The only rule is they must be auto no cluch and other can still drive it even with the controls on. I will load a pic on my area tomorrow
Thanks

I forgot to add the image of the hand controls, you can see them under the steering wheel, very easy to use and I can power brake with one hand and steer with the other.

Sure this site is the best for para's they have everything nice titanium chairs and good hand controls. Just a few years ago they would have had to cut up the entire steeringcolume to install controls about a grand now I have a couple of these new portables about $280 a set cheap really and I leave a pair on the Benz and keep another pair when I travel like a rental or just to test drive, it's really a great convenience for someone in a chair who is very active and leads an adventuras life like I do. Also I think it's fun if I could use my legs I would probably use the hand controls anyway you get the hang of it quickly.
