SL/R230: Is it possible to put SL55 muffler on SL500? Or maybe I can just buy the tips?

GaryT, did you get the High Performance or Race version? If you got the race, is there any kind of annoying drone at highway speed? I'm trying to choose between Brabus and Eisenmann for my SL600.

I have the Eisenmann Race Version installed on my 04 SL600, and I am very pleased. With the top down you definitely hear a pleasant "roar" at higher rpm's. With the top up it sounds very close to stock. I do not hear any annoying drone at highway speed. I did notice a performance improvement from stock. The car responds even quicker off the line.

I actually tried all three version they had at the time. I believe Eisenmann now only offers "Sport Performance" and "Race Performance".
Race Performance was way to loud for me. Did not go with the car at all. The Sport Performance is actually the one I kept. Nice sound when cruising just the right amount of "growl". However, when fully accelerating this baby sounds like a serious sports car. No vibration or drone to report. The quality of the Eisenmann exhaust is better than factory, no doubt. I have the AMG body kit on my SL500 and the exhaust did fit WITHOUT any body modifications !
I don't know how the exhaust sounds on a V12. I think a race performance exhaust will work well on the SL600 because of the turbos. They actually reduce the exhaust noise a lot. However, I can't recommend the Race Performance exhaust for the V8.

The turbos do quiet the exhaust noise quite a bit. My SL600, with the Eisenmann Race Performance exhaust, is still quieter than my stock 03 CL55. Here is a picture of my SL600 with the Eisenmann exhaust. You can see better pics at their web site http://www.eisenhaus.com. I do like the thinner outer walls of these exhaust tips, since they don't show the carbon buildup like the stock tips I had on my 03 CL55.

My SL was lowered by Carnutz in Bellevue, Washington. You can contact Scooter@carnutz.cc for more information. I am embarrassed to say that I don't know exactly how they did it. I didn't have to purchase a lowering module. They have lowered over 100 Mercedes without the owner having to purchase a separate lowering module. The cost was about $700, which included tire realignment. The only problem I have noticed is that my car still lowers itself further at highway speed, which causes it to ride l little too rough for my taste. I leave it on the lowest setting while cruising around town, but out on the road I raise it up one click with the suspension raising button. I understand that if you purchase a separate lower module your car will not lower itself further at highway speed.
