rear view mirror dimming during the day time
Hey Guys, has any body ever have this problem. My rear view and passenger side mirror go dim during the day time for no reason. If i rub the rear facing sensor on the mirror with a paper towel it clears up temporarily but then goes back to dim. I've tries wiping the front facing sensor to no avail.
has anyone experienced this? its pretty annoying. is there a quick fix or does the mirror need replacing?

I have a similar problem on a CLK cabrio 2004. The service writer had not seen this problem previously and we both assumed that it is a problem with one of the sensor. (side mirror and rearview dimming are generated by the rearview mirror sensors). In my opinion not worth the cost of replacing the mirror unless you can find a salvage unit at a reasonable price (new replacement runs approx $800 min.). Let me know if you find out something different.

Thanks Sheepdog for the reply. I have an extended warranty and I'm wondering will it be covered. i called my service advisor 3 weeks ago and he never responded to my messages. go figure.
I have to bring it in for the A service even though it seems rather early. i'll let you know what i find out and if its covered.
thanks again!

Depending on who your extended warranty is thru, I think you will find that the mirror is one of the exclusions. I have the best plan from Mercury Insurance and this is one of the exclusion. Best of luck.
