2004 SL500 TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS: WON'T GET OUT OF PARK
THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE CAR WON'T MOVE OUT OF PARK. IT HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO GEAR. THIS ALSO HAPPENED TO ME AT A RED LIGHT SO THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED HOME. NOW IT IS JUST SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY AND I CAN'T PUT IT IN THE GARAGE. I DON'T WANT TO DAMAGE THE TRANSMISSION BY FORCING IT INTO GEAR. IS THERE A RELAY OR SOMETHING THAT COULD'VE GONE BAD? PLEASE HELP. YOUR ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.-CHRIS

You can either repair the solenoid or replace the shifter. It's a Fairly common problem. There is a lot of information in the r230 threads on this issue, just search "stuck in park". Good luck

Thanks guys. I remover the shifter and indeed it is that gear selector lever. I am looking for an aluminum unit. I went to the Monoglobal site but found that they only make a plastic unit for my application. I have the GB3004 gear selector lever.
