Hydraulic engine mounts??

I had a very small oil leak on the garage floor.
Maybe a couple teaspoons.

It was just about under the drivers seat.
I brought it (05 SL 600) in to the dealer and was told the oil is coming from
your engine mounts.

I'm a new MB owner and I never heard of hydraulic engine mounts.

I was informed the part is not too expensive (2 to 3 hundred) but the labor is a real killer. 18 HOURS !!!!!!!!!

What is the story with these mounts??

Anyone familiar with this process and the 18 hrs of labor?

I had mine done in a 2004 SL600 last year under warranty. Took them about a week do the mounts and wait for some parts.

When I picked the car up they said they have a special lift for the SL that allows them to lift the chassis off the engine. I don't know if it really is as cool as it sounded or not - but I would have liked to have seen it. When I picked it up they were just bolting the mufflers back on - so I assume it was a pretty intensive job.

They said they has one tech assigned only to my car for almost 3 full days. He didn't work on any other car than mine. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for that

V12 motor mounts are a pain in the ***! The engine has to be removed to to them...Engine is removed through the bottom with the subframe.

And yes they are hydraulic(filled with oil)

I had my '05 SL600 done about 8 months ago. At first noticed a lot of vibration with slight acceleration, then noticed a radiator leak. It unfortunately was out of warranty. cost about 3 grand, not including radiator. If you ignore too long, the engine will jump out of the compartment and fracture the neck on the radiator. It is a big job because the mounts sit under the turbos and the subframe has to be dropped and engine lifted.

On the flip side, the car ran great after that. I had forgotten how smooth it was before they had gone sour.
