To Arnott or Not?

Haven't been driving my SL500 in a week. Took it out the other day and noticed a few drips on the garage floor. Looked under the car and my left rear shock is leaking. Common problem which I know.
My questions is I know Arnott has remanufactured struts now. I called my local independant mechicanic and told him I was going to order a Arnott Strut and he said he would not install it, as they are not OEM???? He said they don't ride like the OEM units and are more difficulty to install?. So has anyone else ran into this, or is this guy just trying to stick me in buying a strut from him? He quoted me $1295 part and $500 labor. I think it's a little high as I found the part for $925 for a OEM, but I like the fact that Arnott has a lifetime warranty and are only $599.
So let me know if you have experience with the Arnotts and how they ride and fit in place?

I am now thinking about installing the strut myself, have anyone else done this, how hard is it to do?
Thanks in advance!

Ha.. That's funny...
It is a rebuilt OEM shock....
How can they be different?

I don't have any personal experience with them, but i have heard that they are excellent.
I have the Chrysler Plan so my front right strut was replaced with the 1600.00 new part at the stealer.

Sounds like your local indy mechanic is getting the stealer fever. Not only is he ripping you off on the cost of the part, but it also raping you on the install cost and feeding you bull****.

The arnotts strut are in fact refurbished OEM parts. They are MUCH cheaper, but that includes core exhange (I think its a $200 credit if I recall correctly) meaning you send them your old broken strut (proves it is refurbished oem). Not to mention they have a lifetime warranty, and with the struts seeming to be common problems, it sounds like a great deal.

Bottom line: Get the arnott strut and try out a different indy mechanic in your area.
