SL 500 Model 2003
2003 SL500 Telephone
Hi all, I am new in here. I have a 2003 SL500. I was wondering if can upgrade the telephone system in the vehicle to use Apple Iphone or any other by bluetooth? Can I install a new telephone system like the ones installed on models 2011? Thanks

It's not perfect but it will let you connect a modern phone with your R230 over Bluetooth. I've been using one for 4-5 years with my '03.

If you want complete integration with your MB's Command module just pick up a new Verizon V60s phone to replace the ATT V60i phone that came with your car since the V60i is no longer supported. This phone works fine with the older V60 cradle you have now. You can buy a new V60s phone for $175 from cellguy85 on ebay (Keith Valentine). It will come complete with the installed MB proprietary software and an MB Logo front cover. The same phone purchased from AWS, (MB's Wireless Partner) would costs you over $600. (Yes, they still sell them).
If you need more information on any MB Cellphone or Bluetooth option call Keith Valentine at (714) 746-5930. Keith was formerly an MB Cellphone System Installer and knows all the MB systems inside and out. Bluetooth can enable you to use a more up-to-date smartphone, but you won't have full function/integration going that route. If you want all the VCS/Command functions to work perfectly, and you like using the car's more powerful antenna and having the car charge your phone while driving, thent he V60s is still the best option, (and at a bargain price from Keith).

Your car has the phone cradle installed in the center console. JMF is right, go with the v60 puck. My v60 paired with my iPhone, and I had no problem accessing my contacts via steering wheel, and I has happy with dash integration. Considering how much technology has changed, the COMAND 2.0 and iPhone have been more reliable than I expected.

Welcome to the forum, Ben! Please take a moment to visit the User Control Panel and update your profile to include your location (at least country). This information will then appear below your name and avatar on the left side panel next to each post you make. This will greatly help others to give you better information. If you are using the mobile version of the site, you will need to switch to the "full" version to get to the User Control Panel.
Before investing ion the puck, make sure that your car has the proper interface for it in the center console (see below for an example). Not all cars came with the cell phone interface. If you don't have that MHI connector, then the puck will do not good and adding the electronics to retrofit that connector into your car is generally prohibitively expensive (if you can even find the parts).
